We had such a wonderful family dinner tonight at Pete's Gulf Bistro on St. Pete Beach, and I truly cannot say enough amazing things about our waitress, Sam B.
From the moment we sat down, she came right over to our table with the biggest smile and the most caring, welcoming energy. She immediately made us feel taken care of. We were dining with our five boys (plus my husband, who she jokingly whispered counted as “one of the boys”), and her sweet humor instantly made the whole table laugh and relax.
What really stood out was how thoughtful and attentive she was with every little detail. When we ordered the lentil bolognese, she kindly took the time to explain exactly what it was like, even making sure we knew there would be lentils in every bite just to be sure my husband would enjoy it. That level of care and attention is so rare and so appreciated.
She went above and beyond for our kids too. Even though they were out of coloring sheets, she still made sure my children had some, which meant so much and helped make the dinner feel extra special for them.
One of the things I appreciated most was that she never once made us feel rushed, shameful, or guilty if we didn’t need anything else. She had the perfect balance of being attentive without hovering, and she made the entire table feel comfortable and relaxed.
On top of the amazing service, the food and drinks were incredible. I got the coolest drink that came with cotton candy, and they poured the drink right over it—it was such a fun and unique touch. We also had the hot rolls, and they were hands down some of the best I’ve ever had—so soft and fluffy they almost felt doughy, but in the best way possible.
She had the perfect mix of professionalism, humor, kindness, and genuine human connection. She joked with us, reassured us, shared a little about herself, and made the whole experience feel personal in the best way. You can tell she truly loves people, and it absolutely shows.
She even quietly offered to buy me a drink after seeing I was out with all my boys, which was such an over-the-top thoughtful and unforgettable gesture.
Out of all the servers and staff we interacted with, she was by far the absolute best. Her personality is truly infectious, and she brings such a happy, uplifting energy to the entire restaurant.
She mentioned that she hopes to earn a supervisor position, and after experiencing the level of care, leadership, warmth, and attention she naturally brings to every table, I can honestly say she would be PERFECT for it. She already carries herself like a leader and creates the kind of atmosphere that makes people want to come back.
She absolutely deserves a raise, a promotion, and recognition for how exceptional she is. Sam B. is the kind of person who turns a nice dinner into a truly memorable experience.
Staying in St pete for the week for my roommates birthday, saw photos online and decided to make the trek through the absolute wackiest resort maze to make it into the restaurant. Three of us sat for lunch, and the place was completely empty. Ordered coconut shrimp that came out without any sharing plates or utensils, well fried, but COMPLETELY RAW once I bit into it. I got a quick “sorry” from the server and they brought out a new coconut shrimp 10 or 15 minutes later. No Manager came by to speak with us about it or even touch the table, nor were we compensated or discounted in any way for that appetizer surprisingly, although that’s not our goal.
From that point forward, how could we not be skeptical? Split a chicken sandwich with my roommate and the chicken tasted like old oil, and the “seasoned” fries were completely soft, plain, and also didn’t seem cooked all the way. Mahi tacos also came out pretty much room temperature.
So where does this leave us? Dangerous food, bad service, and an atmosphere/overall product that is absolutely not worth seeking out if you’re not a resort guest with a craving for food poisoning. I regret not taking photo evidence.
