I hadn't been to a Wendy's in years and decided to stop in this St. Cloud location on Old Canoe Creek while passing yesterday. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt cold and sterile. No greeting, no hello, just a self order kiosk staring back at me. I figured I'd give it a try.
I ordered a double cheese burger with fries and a soda. The kiosk was frustrating; I couldn't figure out how to customize it to add extra pickles (or maybe the option wasn't there). I completed the order anyway and got my number: 287.
A friendly staff member at the counter handed me a cup and pointed me to the drink machine. This newer Coke machine had plenty of flavors, but I went with Coke Zero. The restaurant had only one other customer, which should have been a red flag.
When my order came up, the tray looked gloomy: the burger was wrapped in paper, and the fries were a tiny portion in a cardboard cup. Barely enough for one person. I sat down at an empty table, dipped a few fries in ketchup, ate them and thought, "Okay, not bad." Then I unwrapped the burger.
The two patties were burnt and dried out. I took one bite, chewed, swallowed, and thought, "This isn't great. It’s flavorless"
A second bite confirmed it. I wrapped the rest up, took the whole tray to the trash, and dumped everything. What a waste of money and time.
This used to be an acceptable fast food chain, but apparently the quality has dropped. The burger was inedible, the portions stingy, and the overall experience felt impersonal.
If you're in St. Cloud, Florida, do yourself a favor and skip Wendy's. Head to Culver's instead. Their burgers are far superior, fresher, and more satisfying. It's also better than McDonald's in my opinion. Buyer beware here. Save your appetite for something better!
