TL;DR, GO GET THE PIZZA
I visited recently with my family, as we had been talking about visiting for some time. For a pizzeria, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the visit.
THE PLACE
For a small establishment, EHP seems to have made the most of the space they have. There's plenty of seating space, yet it doesn't feel too crowded. The music was played at an appropriate volume and was child-friendly. Despite the interior layout, I was still able to enjoy the pizzeria experience of watching your pie or slice be prepared (It's the little things).
THE SERVICE
Here's where my visit really took a turn for the best. Shelton (I apologize if your name is misspelled) assisted me during my visit. I let him know I had questions about the menu, as I was unfamiliar with the establishment. Shelton was busy, but this is where he brightened the experience. Shelton had three pies rolling out of their conveyor oven, and instead of rushing away to take care of them, shouting "I'll get to you in a minute!" or that one-fingered gesture that has no place in a customer-facing setting. Instead, he politely let me know he had three pies that need to be served, and that he'd be right back to assist me with any questions I might have. This might seem small to some, but as someone who trains staff in customer service etiquette, this was A+ work.
THE FOOD
When Shelton came back from serving the other customers, he readily assisted me with their menu and available options. He immediately informed me that they are updating their available options, and not everything is reflected in the current menu. I almost held this against them, but it's only January and these things happen. He informed me that they are now offering customizable slices, something that was not available in the past. I asked for one pepperoni slice, and one slice with chicken, spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Typically, this would be the end of the order, as many people go with the "customer is always right" route. Shelton isn't typical though. He told me he would be happy to create my slice as ordered, but would advise against adding spinach, as cooking them at that temperature would alter it's taste and make them more bitter. I was skeptical, as I like my pizza how I like my pizza, and how dare he tell me to change it?!
I opted out of my slice, and asked for a plain slice instead. I typically use a plain slice as a litmus test for a pizzeria. I'm a self-declared pizza snob from Brooklyn, so I take my slices seriously. Instead of letting the opportunity go, Shelton --and here comes that A+ customer service again-- offered to make both slices for me as a gesture of good faith. This allowed me to satisfy my litmus test, while also allowing me to try the slice as recommended by the professional. This is not something Shelton needed to do, but he took a risk that paid off. I did have some critiques on how the plain slice came out, and I shared them with Shelton. However, his recommended slice, was phenomenal and has been added to my slice rotation.
In case it isn't clear, I want to give Shelton, specifically, for his exemplary show of customer service. It is clear to me that pizza is his passion, by the way he carries himself and presents information to his customers. The pizza itself was amazing, with all three slices being worth their individual purchases. I'll definitely be back.
Thanks Shelton!
