Walked in with my family, it has been years since visiting this location. No one to greet us at the carver station. My wife ordered 1/4 W, FO, MAC, we ordered my son a kids BB slider, MAC… and I ordered a #BB BKB, and this new casserole side. The carver absolutely destroyed my brisket. I don’t even know if I got the full pound because he never weighed it.. it could have been more… could have been less… just thrown on the tray, no quarter pan…. Big ouch. It’s sad because the cook standard of the brisket was spot on.. just the way it was served was not appetizing. Outside of that the BKB, were off. Recipe could have changed.. just not 4R smokehouse.. idk how else to explain it. Manager who was walking the floor was great and did a swap for FO, which was good. Also, the casserole side was a banger for sure. Most importantly it was the vibe of the place… man.. no one was excited to be there it felt like rough… lighting was poor too… like where is the excitement?!? y’all have the best brisket in town!
-CATERING DISASTER -
Several weeks ago, I attended a meeting in which Four Rivers catered *I’m not sure which location of the Jacksonville or Orange Park site-more on this below*
The food was phenomenal. So phenomenal, that when it came time for me to select food catering for my event a few weeks later, I chose Four Rivers.
12/04/25 - I placed a catering order through the company’s catering department for delivery on 12/12/25 (quick and seamless process), received the confirmation email from the catering representative (who was extremely pleasant and helpful when placing my order).
Later that day, I receive an email stating the Jacksonville location who would normally make and deliver the order, had too many catering orders and my order would be processed through the Orange Park location. I honestly did not have any problem with this, because as an Orange Park resident, I prefer to support the restaurant that is in my community.
12/12/25 - The order was scheduled to arrive at the event site at 5:00pm, with a dinner start time of 5:30pm. I get a call from someone asking if I spoke Spanish (not fluently) as someone parked (not in a catering vehicle, no identifiable markers to indicate this is a food delivery vehicle for the company.) The woman did not speak English (not a huge deal, we have Google Translate for that). Through an ordeal of translations, I discovered she was indeed the delivery driver for the order, she does not work for the restaurant, and she is a third party delivery service (DoorDash, postmates, UberEats, etc). Once again, not a big deal.
I immediately notice the haphazard packaging of the food (baked bean sauce soaking through a paper bag, food stacked improperly so it was causing the food in the tray below to spill out).
Then the finale of the Four River Disaster Show: 40% of my order was missing. I had not slider buns for the pulled pork, my entire dessert platter was nonexistent, no drinks and no ice ( ALL OF WHICH WAS ORDERED AND CONFIRMED ON THE INVOICE).
So, what do you do when it’s 5:20, dinner starts in 10 minutes, majority of your guests have arrived, and you don’t even have a drink to offer them?!? You send one of your guests of course to make an impromptu grocery run!
I tried calling the restaurant, no answer. I tried contacting the catering, they were closed for the weekend.
Mistakes happen, because we are human beings. Miscommunication happens, because we are human beings. But because of the two, I was not able to serve my guests at the appropriate time, which caused a chain reaction of delays with the program, and cost me additional $ to cover their mistakes/miscommunication.
On a high note, (which there has to be at least one, right?) the food was delicious. The brisket was juicy and flavorful, and the smoked chicken had to be the best I’ve ever had.
So, I would caution anyone who places a catering order from the Orange Park location. It would be extremely disappointing to think the reason for the disregard of ensuring the order was made and delivered with care, was due to the fact of the area of town it was being delivered to.
