Great tasting food (and coffee!) and very reasonably priced. As visiting Brits we wanted to support local independent restaurants/diners and Umpa’s was simply lovely. No frills, great food and we’re so glad we visited. The nod to those who have served in the US military was a nice touch, too. Wonderful that locals were able to recount their service (one chap, whose pic was on the wall from time served in Korea in the 50’s, even popped in for a coffee!). A wonderful experience.
My husband and I had breakfast here one morning. It has such a low-key vibe environment; it reminded me of a place the locals would gather for a cup of coffee. Everyone was really friendly. The food was superb! I ordered a veggie omelet and a couple of sides. My husband ordered fried eggs, bacon, and sausage gravy. We are always happy to support a veteran owned business. Highly recommended Umpa's Diner. So good!
While visiting Umpas Diner, the atmosphere was cute and had the small-town diner charm we usually enjoy. Our waitress was friendly, but she seemed a bit out of it during the visit. Another waitress—who I assumed might be the owner—came across as rude during our interaction.
At one point I asked how they make their tea. I only asked because I personally don’t like when tea bags are boiled since it gives the tea a bitter taste, and I wanted to make sure so I could order something else if needed. The question seemed to be taken poorly, which was a little uncomfortable.
We also waited quite a while for our food even though the diner wasn’t very busy. When the food arrived, most of it was overcooked. My bacon was actually great, but the sausage and eggs were very overdone. The eggs in particular were so overcooked that I didn’t eat them. I did politely let the waitress know the eggs were overdone and not edible. I wasn’t asking for them to be remade or for a discount, but nothing was offered or done to address it.
Overall, the diner itself is cute, and we genuinely enjoy supporting small businesses and local diners. That’s exactly why we came in. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I had expected a bit more in terms of both food quality and service.
Great Friday night dinner

Nothing fancy, just good breakfast food at a place that is not a chain restaurant.
