Immediately greeted by the manager who informed up happy hour would only be at the bar. He was very unpleasant and almost refused us service. We were then sat inside near a window and ordered off the early dining menu. The shrimp appetizer was smaller than bait shrimp, and the fried calamari had almost no calamari in it (it was all veggies). All of us ordered prime rib and each plate was very overcooked. Between the manager’s less than stellar greeting and the mediocre food, it was not a pleasant experience. I would recommend dining somewhere else with a view.

I was very excited to try this place on our staycation. We arrived and was greeted by a hosts who was very rude. She asked for our name and reservation. She was unable to find it. My husband showed her the reservation and she rudely responded yeah a reservation for tomorrow… we asked her if there was any availability to do a walk in, said no and then basically continued with a different individual. We then went to the side and he was able to modify the reservation for that same day just changed the timing. If she would have said hey it’s okay try to see if the website allows you to modify it would have been different. Then when we did get seated there was a bunch of empty tables. Overall the Food was okay.

WE HAD AN ABSOLUTE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE TONIGHT. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. My brother and sister-in-law were in from out of town and we wanted to take them somewhere special to celebrate her 50th birthday. Sadly, it was a huge letdown. What really ruined the experience for us was we had Christian (the one with a tattoo on his neck) for our waiter. We could tell from the very moment he walked up to the table something was off. It was obvious to us all that he was either having an off night or he really doesn't enjoy his job at all. He had ZERO charm or personality. Just going through the motions as if he were making a grocery list. Seems like the least he could do is crack a smile since we were there celebrating a special occasion.
Things took a turn for the worse when he brought the soup and salads to the table. Three of us had ordered salads with the birthday girl getting the lobster bisque. He brought out two lobster bisque and two salads. He sat one of the soups in front of me. I clearly had ordered a ceasar salad (I don't even like lobster bisque so I would have never ordered it). When I turned around and said "Hey, I think I was supposed to have a caesar salad?" He gave out a sigh and said firmly, "No. You ordered the lobster bisque " and then proceeds to walk over to where other waiters were standing to grab his ticket book and returned to the table and said "That's not what I have here. According to this, you ordered the lobster bisque." When I looked at him like seriously he just looked back at me as though we were at an impasse, and then sharply quipped, "Would you like for me to get you a caesar salad?" and went off in a huff. When he returned to the table with my caesar salad I leaned back and asked him "Are you having a bad night or what?" He said "No I am having a fantastic night. What about you?" with a sarcastic tone.
The service was absolutely terrible. Honestly, i've had better service than an Applebee's and WITHOUT the serving of attitude. The pacing of the meal was off. No bread was served with our salads but we're later, given some with our entrees. It took us over two hours from the time we sat down at our table till the time we were served and finished.
This place is not anything like what it used to be. It used to be a place for our family to celebrate special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc) but it's clear they have come to rest on their namesakes laurels, no longer offering an exceptional dining experience.
There are too many better options on the keys. Take it from an old timer - "She ain't what she used to be!"

The real star of the show was our server. Alicia. There were eight at our table and she ran that table like a well-oiled machine. Never did we want for anything. She was busy too and she always had everything full and was right by our side checking on us. It was just the best service ever. I am so impressed with that server. When we got in the car we all talked about how she even seemed like a friend. Not only great service but you know we were all stopping and saying goodbye to her at the hostess stand like we were going to miss her.

There are some excellent options for fine dining in and around Longboat Key, St. Armands, Sarasota, etc.; however, Chart House (sadly) isn't one of them.
After many years of wanting to try out Chart House, my wife and I finally made it a priority on this trip to give it a shot. While the restaurant is situated on a beautiful location on the South tip of Longboat Key, that is really the one and only positive I am able to share about our experience this evening.
Unfortunately, our server left a lot to be desired for a fine restaurant. Not only was he not personable with either my wife or I, he also did not one offer to refill our empty water glasses or offer to get my wife a second cocktail. He also did not offer us any bread so I had to request that after it was clear he wasn't going to be bringing us any.
My filet (which was ordered Medium Well) came out rare as you can see in the photo with a cold center. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be a huge deal if our waiter had even stopped by to check on us or confirm things were prepared to our liking. When he eventually came by to clear our plates, he asked if I wanted a box to which I stated I wouldn't need one given the portion I didn't eat was not cooked to my taste. He did take 50% off that item so I will make it clear they did at least offer some type of resolution.
Ultimately, my wife and I are far from particular, but we both agreed this was easily one of the worst service experiences we have ever had at a restaurant, much less a fine dining experience where you expect to pay at least $75/per person not including beverages or tips.
This was a one and done for us so felt it was important to warn others that you will be far happier going with options like Shore, CW Prime at the Regis, Tommy Bahamas, Mar Vista, Dry Dock, etc.
