My wife and I finally got into The Beak and Barrel at Magic Kingdom last night after a long day in the parks—lots of walking and waiting in lines. Our reservation was already running 20 minutes late, which didn't help the fatigue.
When they seated us, they stuck our group in a separate room off to the side, away from the main bar area. We were standing at a high-top table crammed in with 9 other people who were clearly just as frustrated and unhappy about the setup. For $20+ per drink, we ended up standing in this overflow space, completely unable to see or experience any of the immersive pirate theming, storytelling, or "cool" elements everyone raves about (the singing, interactions, atmosphere in the main tavern).
It felt like we paid a premium for a watered-down, second-class version of the experience. Super disappointing—easily the worst thing we've encountered on Disney property. Won't be going back.
Honestly, I think we may have just had bad luck. There were four of us, and we were seated in a corner where we couldn’t experience any of the little shows. We were also seated with other “Voyagers,” but that part was totally fine. they were great people, and if it weren’t for them, our experience probably would have been even worse.
After we were seated, it took about 20 minutes for our waitress to bring order our drinks — and keep in mind, this experience has a strict 45-minute time limit. A different waiter ended up bringing our food and took care of us for the remainder of the time. He was funny and did a great job.
Unfortunately, the food ended up giving us food poisoning causing us to miss the rest of our day and our after hours. Between that, not being able to see or experience much from where we were seated (honestly, that table probably shouldn’t even exist), and receiving our drinks and food halfway through the experience, it just wasn’t enjoyable. We did book this about a month in advance.
I probably wouldn’t recommend it. Oga's Cantina is much better.

The atmosphere has potential to be really cool. The drinks are of course expensive but they are very fun if you like rum based drinks. The standing room vs seating is strange. We were brought in and immediately made a hard stop by the front door and told this was our spot.. where we are to stand the entire time. It was a small rail on the wall. We didnt get to see anything else as we were constantly being pushed against the wall as this was where people walked in. Extremely awkward considering that about 75% of this bar has seats for everyone else. Why is disney doing this? I dont mind being told to get up after 45 minutes.. especially if I get the chance to sit. We however left after 1 drink for this reason. We also didnt have a server come up for atleast 10 minutes.. and yes the timer starts before your server sees you. Server however was top notch and none of these issues are the service staffs fault.
I am here to combat the negative reviews. We visited the parks over Valentine's weekend, and on a whim booked a last minute reservation at Beak and Barrel (we just happened to be scrolling the app when a spot became available). Our reservation was for 10pm - park closed at 11pm. We checked in and were brought in a few minutes later (early for our reservation). They went over the rules (nothing shocking, becuase we went in with expectations) and we took our place at the bar. We were standing - no biggie - we were here for the experience, not a 3 hour bar sesh.
This is a fantastically themed pirate bar, with rum inspired tiki drinks, and enthusiastic cast members who played the part. Our bartender was amazing, great recommendations, so responsive, and not once did we feel rushed or pressured. We each enjoyed 2 drinks each, complete with a souvenier pirate mug. Was it expensive? Sure, but it's Disney. Again, we were here for the experience, and boy did it deliver.
I fear a lot of negative reviews are from guests who just don't do their research before visiting. This is not a restaurant, it's a bar. If you missed that, you simply DIDN'T READ. If you're looking for a meal, this is not the place. It's also a bar in the middle of a theme park - 45 minutes is plenty of time to enjoy a few drinks and be on your way. Let me tell you the drinks are STRONG, 2 was more than enough, one more we would have been floating towards the monorail.
If you're looking to spend hours eating and drinking at a themed bar, Trader Sam's is conveniently located just a few monorail stops away. At the end of the day it's not for everyone, and that's fine! But please just skip if you don't like the rules - leave room for those of us who love spots like this.
I'm a HUGE Pirates of the Caribbean fan, so I was so excited when we finally were able to experience The Beak and Barrel three months after making our reservation. Unfortunately, every aspect was underwhelming, and quite honestly, not up to the Disney standards I've come to expect.
First, our check-in experience was rushed and felt like a list of rules to follow instead of "Welcome aboard, me Hearties!"
* 45 minutes max inside
* 2 drinks per person
* drinks must be finished inside
* you'll be sitting or standing with fellow crew members
Once we were inside, we were shown to a small, cramped bar area to stand, not even bar stools provided. I asked our server about being able to sit in two of the 12 available seats I could see, and they said, "This is where you'll be the whole trip." So, I went over to another cast member who was holding an iPad and inquired about seating with her. She said, "When you check in, you can request to sit, but it may be an additional time to wait."
Had I known this was an option, I would have gladly waited the additional 10-15 minutes to have a seat and enjoy the experience. I offered the "gift of a complaint" in mentioning that this information would have been very helpful had it been told to us when we checked in. She asked if I wanted to speak with "an officer," and I politely declined. I just wanted her to note that feedback. She again almost insisted that I speak with an officer and was quite rude about it. I again declined and walked back to stand at the bar. A few minutes later, a cast member brought over a bar stool for me to use, which was a nice courtesy.
Our food was better than typical MK fair food, but it was not great. The Island Provisions were the best, which is a really good flavor balance between the crisps and dips. The Kraken's Catch was weird, and the flavors did not work well at all. It's also pushed me off ever eating octopus again. The Cook's Corn Griddle Cakes tasted very good until the one bite I had was so severely spicy that I gagged on it, and no amount of water could tame the fire.
We had the Cursed Treasure and Treasure Trove drinks, both non-alcoholic and both "meh." There was so much ice in the Trove that the drink was watered down within a few minutes. The texture of the Treasure drink was odd because of the cookie crumble in it. You had to chew it to drink it.
Our bill was close to $100 with tip, and the experience just didn't provide enough true Pirate ambiance or value for us to return. Which was really disappointing. Not even the cute animations they dud with the parrot peaked my interest because it was just not a relaxing or even comfortable environment to enjoy a light meal.
If you want a better experience, head over to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at the Polynesian.
