I don’t normally review anymore, but this one is gonna take me out of retirement.
We are visiting from North Carolina but come from Texas. We frequently take trips to Mexico where my wife’s family lives so I love Mexican food. We decided to eat here after seeing it was close to our hotel and had such good reviews.
First, you walk in and are greeted by someone who was super friendly telling you to order at the kiosk. No big deal, but expect it.
Price wise I would say this was expensive. It was about $115 for three people. We got one appetizer trio, a vegetarian burrito, the taki tacos, and some stacked quesadilla thing I can’t remember the name of. For drinks we had 2 Jarritos and a Strawberry drink. We wanted water with it but they only have bottled water for almost $3 a bottle.
The appetizer was the trio with Guac, Pico, Queso. The queso was good. The guac was alright, but you could tell it wasn’t fresh because of how fluffy the guac was. It wasn’t bad though. The pico was just onions, tomato’s, and some cilantro. Chopped way too big. It should have been chopped smaller and there should have been some jalapenos, lime, and garlic in it with some salt.
My meal was OK. It didn’t have much flavor to be honest. There was a lot of meat in it which is good, but not good with no flavor. I ordered consume with it which was kind of sweet which clashed with the beef I had in my meal. It would have been better with pork since it’s sweet.
The vegetarian burrito wasn’t much to talk about. It was loaded with rice and very little vegetables. This was basically $15 for a tortilla and rice rolled up. Not much flavor either.
The third meal was the taki taco trio. The first bite was a massive chunk of just fat. So that was disappointing. Again not much flavor either everything kind of tasted the same.
I needed some flavor and spice so I tried the Habenero, Cayenne, and Jalapeno hot sauce. They all tasted pretty much the same which was like Texas Pete or Franks Red Hot. Very vinegary and zero heat.
Lastly we had churros. The dulce de leche ones. These were good, but when they first brought them out they told us they messed up and made cookies and cream ones instead and asked if we wanted them. We said no so they came back later with the correct ones. We enjoyed these the most from everything, so whoever is making their churros is doing a good job.
The interaction with staff was amazing. Everyone who helped us or brought our food out was super nice and professional. They all did a great job from the moment we walked in the door.
We sat outside too. The table was very unbalanced and I had to use paper towels to balance it out. 2 of the chairs also had some very loose screws holding the legs on which made them feel unstable. So be careful sitting in them if you choose outside.
Overall this was disappointing, especially for the price. I think they have good options on the menu, but they need to do a bit more with their ingredients to get the flavor popping off. Chop the pico smaller, use ripe Roma tomato’s, add some lime and garlic and salt. Make sure the consume isn’t sweet. Fix the hot sauce so people can have some spices. Less rice in the burritos and more vegetables like the sautéed mushrooms. Get water for people. Things like that.
