We had the BEST first experience here. First off, the hostess Lo went above and beyond to get us a reservation, calling us back and helping us get our preferred time. She was awesome! Then our server Kelsey was AMAZING! She was so knowledgeable of the menu and every question we had. 20/10 experience and will deff be back.

To O-Ku at Jax Beach,
We are writing to formally address a deeply troubling incident in which a member of our group—an individual who has hosted multiple events at your establishment—was refused service by your staff. Based on the circumstances reported, this denial of service appears to have been rooted in racial discrimination.
Let us be clear: refusing service to someone because of the color of their skin is not only morally unacceptable, it is a serious violation of basic civil rights. What is equally concerning is that this incident aligns with numerous public reviews and accounts suggesting that this type of behavior may reflect a broader and ongoing pattern within your establishment.
This is not a matter that can be dismissed or handled quietly. We expect immediate action, including a thorough internal investigation, accountability for the individuals involved, and a clear outline of the steps your business will take to ensure this does not happen again.
We require a prompt and substantive response. Failure to respond appropriately will leave us no choice but to escalate this matter publicly. This includes contacting local and national media outlets, filing formal complaints with civil rights organizations, and pursuing all available avenues to ensure this issue receives the attention it warrants.

Finally made it to Oku, and I have to say I wasn’t very impressed. Our server was amazing, and the drinks were definitely on point. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was very accommodating, which I appreciated.
As for the food, the sushi was just okay. We ordered two sushi rolls, wings, and the bao buns, and it took about 30 minutes just to get our appetizers. I tried the Black Magic roll, but I didn’t like the texture it completely fell apart in the soy sauce. We also ordered the Oceanside roll, which was actually really good and probably the thing we ate .
The wings themselves were pretty bland, although the sauce was good.
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, so it’s disappointing to say I probably wouldn’t go back unless it’s just for drinks and maybe the Oceanside roll.

We visited O-KU while on vacation in Jacksonville Beach, FL, and it was hands down one of the best dining experiences of our entire trip. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, modern, and perfect for a relaxing night out by the beach.
The sushi here is absolutely incredible—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. I ordered the Oceanside Roll, and it was fantastic. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and every bite tasted fresh and well-crafted. It’s definitely a roll I would recommend to anyone visiting for the first time.
We also tried the Nigiri & Sashimi Moriawase, which was equally impressive. The selection was fresh and beautifully presented, and you could really taste the quality of the fish. One of the standout details was the fresh grated wasabi root. It added such a clean, authentic flavor that elevated the entire experience beyond what you typically get at most sushi spots.
On top of the amazing food, the service was great—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out in a timely manner, and the staff made sure we had a great experience from start to finish.
If you’re in Jacksonville Beach and looking for top-tier sushi, O-KU is a must-visit. I would absolutely come back again and highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates great sushi and a great atmosphere.

Hey, I am sorry to say that I have not posted reviews prior - we’ve had exceptional experiences here. In our first experience, we had waiters coming to the table with lemons and hot towel rolls for your hands . That disappeared after a while or we actually saw it applied to some tables and not others still we always have consistently good food actually great food and we always eat downstairs inside and the food came on time. We didn’t have any issues. Well, this time let me tell you it was way different and definitely a game breaker. We arrived there tonight and the second we walked in we were hit with a wave of a horrible smell. I used to work in restaurants for 20 years so I know that smell that something is rotten. At first, I thought maybe it was the rug because the second we walked in the door I had a wave of that smell but as we moved in and continued, we were seated downstairs and we couldn’t even stay there. I knew I could not eat downstairs inside there because it smelled so awful the whole place smelled like a dirty mop. We were seated upstairs in the outdoor patio and it was better, but that fume radiated throughout the entire restaurant as we walked to the upstairs outside patio. My husband and I couldn’t understand how anyone could even eat in the inside downstairs or how the staff could even tolerate that smell. Dirty mop bar rot smell. And a $200 meal. Plus, the kitchen was totally behind so wondering if management has changed and that’s what’s going wrong. Other customers were leaving being Apologized to.
I really hate posting this because this was favorite sushi place but something’s gotta change or we will not be back.
