I came back here specifically because the peanut butter chocolate shake I had on a previous visit was really good. Unfortunately, this visit completely changed my mind about ever returning.
On my first visit, the shake was the only highlight. A different employee made it that time and it was smooth, well-balanced, and actually tasted like peanut butter and chocolate. I even tipped her. The food, however, was already disappointing — French toast, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. The hash browns were decent, but the eggs were just okay, and the French toast was overpowering with cinnamon, almost like it was dumped on instead of blended properly. The food also had a strange taste, like it may have been cooked in old grease. Definitely mediocre at best.
This time around was much worse.
When I came in, the woman who greets you and seats you (an older, heavyset white woman who seems to be in charge) was polite at first. I ordered the same peanut butter chocolate shake. I overheard her ask another employee behind the counter (a Black woman) if she knew how to make it. She said yes and made it — but this version was not the same.
The peanut butter was clumpy and not mixed properly, there was barely any chocolate flavor, and there was marshmallow fluff smeared around the glass, which I did not ask for and do not eat. When I asked what it was, I was told it was marshmallow fluff. I explained that I didn’t want that and that the shake didn’t taste right. That’s when the experience went downhill.
The woman who seated me became rushed and irritated, firing off questions like “too much peanut butter? not enough? more chocolate? less chocolate?” before abruptly saying she’d make another one. She snatched a cup up, went to the back, and was slamming things around, clearly annoyed.
The second shake was even worse.
It tasted mostly like plain vanilla, with only a faint hint of peanut butter and chocolate. Completely bland and careless, like it was made just to get it over with. When she came back asking, “Is it better now?” it didn’t feel genuine — it felt like pressure to say yes so she could move on. I paid for it, but I couldn’t even finish it.
On top of that, the place itself feels run down. On a previous visit, the outside smelled like urine, and there have been times when aggressive solicitors were right near the entrance, which already made me hesitant to go in.
Bottom line:
The only reason I came back was for that shake, and the only reason I liked it the first time was because someone else made it. Between the inconsistent quality, poor attitude when a mistake was pointed out, bland food, and overall atmosphere, I won’t ever be returning.
If consistency and customer service matter to you, I’d look elsewhere.
