Had a reservation last night at 6:45. Upon arrival at 6:45 we were told it would be 15-20 minutes wait until our table was ready. Even though it was obvious there were half a dozen open tables. Sent to the bar to wait, oldest restaurant trick in the book. Told the receptionist we would be downstairs in the bar and to come get us when our table is ready. She informed us she would text us , even though we were 30 seconds away. 15 minutes later she texted us, but even though we had the phone on the bar table we never saw the text. Went up 20 minutes later once we saw the text, only to be admonished for not responding in time. She informed us she was about to give our table away. Keep in mind we were 30 seconds away and the restaurant wasn’t busy. When we asked for her name, to speak with her manager, she refused to give it.
The waitress was very nice, but the receptionist is a witch. On top of that, the food was very mediocre. Over cooked shrimp and fishy tasting snapper on the “Chef’s Special “.
Have lived in this area for 40 years. There are too many other decent restaurants in Daytona to put up with this treatment. Will never return.
I'm sad that I have to write my first ever 1-star review - I have literally never had an experience at a restaurant (or anywhere else) that was so awful that I felt the need to leave a 1-star review - never. But, this was so bad I felt compelled to do so (spoiler alert - my steak was spoiled). My family & I went to Chart House tonight for my mother's birthday. And I'll get the pros out of the way up front - the service was essentially perfect - our server was lovely, & I couldn't ask for better in that regard. My husband said his snapper was good, the bread was fine, & the mud pie my mom got was fine. But, the rest of the food was absolutely *revolting.* to put it mildly. First off - the salad bar, which is $27 standalone & $15 with a dinner (which is CRAZY given the quality.) ALL the lettuce was wilted all to hell, like, hardly a crisp piece to be found. And I'm not rich, & not fancy, so, I'm not a big caviar consumer - but I figured I'd grab some since it was there - & it was one of the most vile things I've ever tasted - to say it was 'fishy' would be a massive understatement. And a quick google search will tell you that that's not normal, it shouldn't taste like that, & if it does it's likely because it's spoiled. It's apparently also not supposed to have a strong odor either, but this did, the entire table commented on the nasty smell of it. I had to bathe my baby to get the rancid fish smell off him because he got some on himself.
Next, the entrees. My mom & I got the prime rib - & Chart House is supposed to be known for their top-notch prime rib. I haven't been to this place since the early 2000s, but it was great back then, so, I was expecting something that was decent, at the very least. But this was not just mediocre or underwhelming, but outright DISGUSTING. First off, the food all looked like it had been sitting out for hours or something, it had a weird crust layer & discoloration on top from sitting out for who-knows-how-long. But, I'm the least picky person ever, & I've NEVER met a steak I didn't like (I have enjoyed Waffle House steaks more than once.) And I have a horrible stuffy nose from allergies at the moment, so I can't smell really well, but as soon as I brought the fork toward my face, I got hit with the very distinct odor of rotten/spoiled beef. It smelled exactly like ground beef does when you leave it in the fridge about 5+ days past the expiration date, it's turned brown, & you realize as soon as you smell it that you're getting take-out tonight, because this needs to go in the trash can *stat.* That was the smell. I was in denial - this was a $55 steak, there is NO WAY they'd serve a funky prime rib at a place like this, at this price point. And my mom's boyfriend was treating us to this meal, so I desperately wanted not to embarrass my mom in front of him or make him feel bad when he's spending a mint on dinner for everyone, so, I said nothing. My 6-year-old & 1-year-old had already eaten a bunch of bites of my mom's steak by the time I accepted that I wasn't crazy & this steak was bad. I smelled hers - also gross. I noticed that even the fat didn't look quite right. My husband that doesn't even like steak said it looked weird to him (when we left.) And my children just ate this. I kept trying to convince myself it was fine, drowning it in au-jus to try to cover the taste. And I have terrible anxiety, & it's way outside my comfort zone to accuse a fancy restaurant of serving spoiled food in front of someone I barely know buying my family a nice dinner. I just couldn't say anything to the waitress, I didn't want to ruin my mom's birthday dinner. But, I know one thing - I will never, EVER go back. I had to order some coffee afterward just to try to get the weird taste out of my mouth. Now I've been queasy all night & can't get this terrible experience out of my mind. The Health Department needs to go inspect this place, good grief.
(Also - there's pretty serious water damage in the ladies' room ceiling - this expensive & fancy an establishment & they can't get that fixed??)
