I’ve been to Joe’s, Prime Rib, and Bourbon. This is the best steak house in DC in terms of flavor and quality. The porterhouse was unbelievable, and the bone marrow butter was so good with it. Lobster bisque is super creamy with huge chunks of lobster. Rockefeller and bone marrow were good, not must haves. We got the cherry tart, butter cake, and fresh whipped cream for dessert and all were delicious. The only bad thing about this place is the vibe, some people come in hardly in dress code and I wish there was a way to limit how loud some people talk 😂

I recently spent about $400 at Mastro’s Steakhouse and was honestly very disappointed with the service. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a much higher level of attentiveness and professionalism.
From the start, service felt slow and unorganized. We had to wait longer than expected for basic things, and there was a lack of attention throughout the experience. It didn’t feel like our table was a priority at all, which is frustrating when you’re spending that kind of money.
The food itself was decent, but the overall experience didn’t match the reputation or the price tag. For a $400 dinner, you expect top-tier service—and unfortunately, that just wasn’t the case.
I wouldn’t rush back, and I hope management takes service more seriously moving forward.

Dined here for my birthday dinner during a celebratory weekend in DC. Bill was $700 for 2 adults & 2 kids (no alcohol or dessert). All 4 of our steaks were delivered raw even though we ordered medium well. They were all sent back & returned inedible as they were rubbery due to being refired after being cut into. They only offered to take off 2 sides as a courtesy. My husband later called as we were upset that we left hungry after a $700 bill. The manager refused any further assistance in resolving our disappointing dining experience.

As this was our last night out in DC and my flight got delayed several hours, we turned on the dinner excitement and headed over. We luckily got a table for our party of 12 and started things off with a magnum of Caymus.
For apps, we did the calamari, waygu carpaccio. Both were great, although I really enjoyed the calamari. For steaks we ordered the 32oz Ribeye, Pittsburgh style and it was more than enough for 3 of us(They even split it as well!).
BE VERY CAREFUL AS THE PLATES COME OUT AT OVER 400 DEGREES. A kid in the group didn't pay attention to the multitude of warnings and touched the plate. He was temporarily unhappy with that decision. The steaks were all amazing and cooked perfectly(slightly undercooked at Medium Rare, but the plate helped with correcting that(which im pretty sure is the plan of the restaurant).
Dessert were great too! We went for the Creme Brulee(stacked with a side of mixed berries), chocolate layer cake and most importantly, the butter cake(My fav). All were very good, but definitely needed ice cream for the chocolate cake. Butter cake comes with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream already layered on top and was delcious.
Dessert was delicious, as was the entirety of the meal. We all left happy, including the kids.
A big shout out to the singer they had, as we thoroughly enjoyed her vocal prowess. She very happily took songs on command and did a great with with Taylor swift.
Thank you to the entire staff for an excellent dinner. It truly was a great time

I’ve always considered Mastro's Steakhouse one of my favorite restaurants in the U.S. Over the years I’ve visited several locations, especially in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Los Angeles, and every experience there has been excellent. Because of those experiences, I didn’t pay much attention to the mixed reviews for the Mastro's Steakhouse location.
My husband and I were visiting Washington, DC to celebrate our first anniversary, and we made sure to reserve Mastro’s as soon as we booked our flights. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a special celebration turned into a complete disaster.
For our appetizer, my husband ordered the bone marrow. We had ordered the exact same dish just two weeks earlier in Miami and loved it. This time, however, it arrived extremely slimy and had an unpleasant taste. After one bite we immediately told our server. He said he would remove it from our bill, and we showed him the dish — which clearly hadn’t been eaten beyond the first bite.
We decided to give the restaurant another chance and ordered the A5 Japanese Wagyu (8 oz), requesting it medium rare. What arrived was completely rare and freezing cold in the center. When we brought this up, the server actually tried to explain that this was how medium rare is supposed to be served. In all the years I’ve been eating steak at high-end restaurants — including other Mastro’s locations — I have never had a steak served like that and been told it was correct.
Despite the disappointing food, we still paid our $400 bill with a 17% gratuity and left.
Unfortunately, things got even worse. The next day, both my husband and I suffered severe food poisoning. We were vomiting and sick throughout the day and had to push our return flight back because we were in no condition to travel. Instead of enjoying our anniversary trip, we spent most of the time in the restroom trying to recover.
This experience completely ruined what should have been a special milestone for us. I never expected such poor quality and service from a restaurant with the reputation that Mastro’s has built over the years.
After this experience, I honestly don’t think I will ever return to Mastro’s again. The General Manager should seriously look into what is happening at this location, because this level of food quality and food safety is unacceptable.
Our first anniversary celebration ended with both of us sick and still recovering — an incredibly bitter memory from a restaurant we once loved.
A complete shame.
