- NSNeil SandowFeb 1, 20261.0Feb 2nd approx 5:25 pm. I was using the self-checkout when an employee came over and reached across the credit card screen. At first, I thought she might be helping or grabbing candy or something nearby. However, when I checked the receipt on the machine, I noticed a $10 donation had been added for the store’s charity, which I did not authorize. When I asked the employee about it, she denied adding the charge and said she didn’t know what I was talking about. Eventually, the self-checkout clerk had to void the entire transaction to remove the $10 donation and rescan all of my items. Adding charges without a customer’s consent, regardless of whether it’s for charity, is unacceptable. Employees should not be reaching over customers or touching checkout screens while someone is in the middle of a transaction. I also noticed the same employee touching another customer’s screen as I was leaving.
