Worst safeway in the area. Travel the extra 8 minutes to Wisconsin. The staff here is rude, unnecessarily nasty, and unpleasant as a rule. This is not your friendly neighborhood market. It also doesn't regularly stock common items.

I wish I could give this location no stars. They never have what I need stocked. Last week I purchased coconut water and realized this week that it expired in August and I drank one of them last week but can't prove that's why I didn't feel well. A customer shouldn't have to expect expired products being on the shelf for sale. And because I didn't have the receipt anymore I didn't try to return it. I wasted $20 because every carton I purchased was expired. I also purchased some sliced watermelon this week and it tastes like crap. I think they're switching the packed dates. There's no way the watermelon was packed on the date provided with the old taste it has. Never going there again.

It's Safeway in Chevy Chase, N.W. Washington, D.C. What could go wrong? Basic and upscale options. Pharmacy too.

This safeway is small. The store is falling apart. The shelves in the meat department are disgusting they have spillage from old meat and they don't ever clean the shelves before stacking the new fresh meat and when you get the meat it looks fresh and isn't expired but it smells spoiled. The shelves in the refrigerator are disgusting and aren't cleaned and need to be replaced. You can clearly see the rust and spillage on the shelves and they still stack fresh milk on the shelves. That isn't acceptable the health department will shut this store down if the health department goes in there to do a store inspection. Customers could become sick due to contamination of fresh food being stored and stacked on uncleaned and sanitary refrigerators and shelves. I was sold some spoiled shrimp from the seafood department. The exact day that I purchased the shrimp went home to cook and the shrimp were spoiled. I was able to get a refund but I'm afraid to buy meat fro this store because of my experience here. The management isn't managing this store correctly. I don't want to eat spoiled internet food and I shouldn't have to address my concerns online. I have spoken to the manager several times about the issues on the cleaning or replacement of the shelves in the meat and milk department and nothing has been done. It's always employees standing there looking crazy but they aren't cleaning and making sure the food is stored properly.
