I have been a regular at this Gaint since 2013. I have even been an employee as well as my son. I have never been more disheartened than how I was treated yesterday from this store. I'm normally in this store at lease 3 to 5 time a DAY in a week. I'm friendly and or cordial with almost all employees and most managers. Yesterday I was on my first trip in the store. I took my usual route in the store, I walked pass one of the new/visiting managers the African guy, (can't recall his name). Normally when he sees me he gives me a pound yesterday he didn't "weird" but I thought he was just to busy. So when I shop I put my things in my recycled bag.So I paid for my stuff when I was walking out an unkempt security guy asked to see my receipt.I couldn't believe it I went left and wanted to know WHY! I was told that the African manager said he saw me putting something in my bag ( hence that's how I've always shopped. ) but I knew something was wrong when I didn't get a poundfrom him. So the bull story that he gave me is that they were doing an audit. So what I did, I had an employee clock the doors for me and inform me that no one else was stopped at all yesterday for that so called audit. I don't know what that was about but they've LOST a loyal long-term customer. Everything in this store is not the best. There shady Brook ground Turkey is always bad in the middle. The ice cream is always melted and refrozen, a lot of their frozen products have freezer burns on it. But a shop there because most of the managers and most of the employees are nice and they are kind to me. I'M EXTREMELY SADDENED, DISHEARTENED, AND DISAPPOINTED. ABOUT THIS SO-CALLED AUDIT, WHEN NO ONE ELSE HAS BEEN STOPPED SINCE I LEFT THAT STORE AND SO FAR THIS MORNING AS OF 9 am (1/6/26).

Good inner city grocery store. Fully stocked. Delivery option takes 2 days, so taking odd one star.

The guy at the deli counter laughed in my face when I was just standing there looking at the case. He said at me “I’m closed” and then laughed in my face this grocery store sucks I didn’t even talk to him or ask him for help or anything

The woman working the self checkout today was rude on an appalling level. I didn’t even need help or ask for it. I just scanned my item and immediately the ‘please wait for attendant’ sign came up, so she came over and got in my face about how I’m supposed to type in my phone number, and how I placed the item in the wrong place. I felt ambushed and patronized. She was incredibly rude and arrogant about it. I’m not an idiot, I was just trying to check out - as I’ve done dozens of times - and didn’t need the unnecessary condescension from her. Absolutely no way to treat customers. You don’t even have to be super friendly. Neutrality is preferable to being a bully like she was. Feel sorry for how miserable she must be to treat people that way.

This is my neighborhood giant. Been going here for a decade. Yesterday, there were 3 dogs in the store (I was there only 10 minutes). One of them, a rather large dog, was off-leash. I know this is DC, and there is a SURPLUS of entitled dog owners, but this has got to stop. There is a security guard posted at the entrance. Why are you permitting people to break the law, and allowing dogs in the store? Why is the security guard not asking if theirs is a service dog, and what task the service dog is helping them to perform? You will tag customers' backpacks, but not stop an off-leash dog???? There are customers with severe dog allergies, and grocery stores need to take a stand. You must uphold the law and prohibit entitled dog owners from having free rein of your stores.
