The Chicken Noodles were easily the star of the show. Often in Indian restaurants, Indo-Chinese dishes can feel like an afterthought, but these were executed perfectly. smoky flavor, and the chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and plentiful. It struck that perfect balance of savory soy and spicy chili without being overly greasy will visit again

I was looking for a calm, easygoing place to have a late lunch after a long day of walking. Glad I stumbled upon this place! It was just what I needed. Service was welcoming (Abi was awesome). The atmosphere was not overdone or too stimulating.
I started off with their seasonal soup. It came out relatively quickly and was similar to a nice, warm, flavorful bisk. Rich in aromatics and soothing. Get it before it's out of season.
I then got another item on the menu (Idli) that initially looked small but was surprisingly filling. Don't let it fool you. Abi informed me this dish is from northern India where the food tends to be spicier...which is exactly what I happen to like. Will definitely be returning here with my wife.
One recommendation would be having pictures to go along with the menu items as much as possible.

We traveled from Baltimore and Our first experience at Dakshin was phenomenal! We sampled vegetarian and fish dishes, bhel puri, appams and rasam. Each course was delicious, and authentic. Highly recommended. We traveled from Baltimore and Our first experience at Dakshin was phenomenal! We sampled vegetarian and fish dishes, bhel puri, appams and rasam. It’s easily the worst Indian dining experience we have ever had.
We waited over an hour just for our food to arrive, and when it finally did, it was stone cold. We sent several dishes back to be heated, but after another 10-minute wait, they returned just as cold as before—while the rest of our meal sat there losing what little heat it had left.
The service was a total disaster. We were told they couldn't make dosa because they lacked cooks, and we couldn't even get tea because they were understaffed. To top it off, the biryani tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for days. With so many incredible options in DC, don't waste your time or money here. I certainly won't be back

Absolutely phenomenal evening of cocktails and dinner. Polite and attentive waitstaff. I had the lamb biryani and my partner the Karwar Chicken curry, both excellently spiced and delicious. Spice was pleasant, and I ordered my biryani with extra spice and it had a nice heat to it.
The cocktails were also quite enjoyable and unique. My partner had two rum Moscow mules with ginger (their Mumbai mule) and I had a kingfisher with my course and a whiskey cocktail as well that was pleasantly sweet and honey like.
The garlic naan was delicious- one of the best I’ve had certainly if not the best, and the mini masala dosa was also a very fun, unique, and delicious appetizer for our meal. The raita served with our main was also outstanding.
Great gluten free and vegetarian options, clearly marked, and safe for that crowd (as my partner is).
Price is reasonable, especially for the city and the taste is phenomenal. Portions were well sized and our two entrees were enough for two. Waiter was knowledgeable of the menu and helped us order well. No line, booked reservation day of and the restaurant was approximately half to 1/3 full.
A real gem in this part of DC and would certainly recommend to anyone looking for Indian in the neighborhood. Will be back!
