So Julien let me tell you about my experience at your brunch. I received a flat bread that was supposed to have beef rib, marcona almonds, onions and the cheeses. Mine had NO beef, NO almonds and had mushrooms. Guess what I hate. Mushrooms.
We got the first item, fairly quickly after beverage then the second 15 minutes later. Then another 20 minutes get something we didn’t order, then another 15 minutes get something we did order, then another 20 minutes that totally incorrect flatbread. Then we got our desert ( with the incorrect sauce), and that was before we had our other 2 courses!! Waiter seemed unaware we didn’t get those, and most likely he would be unaware as rarely were we checked in on! 2 hours we were there and it was NOT busy.
Guess what? Won’t be back
This place was honestly very underwhelming. My fiancée and I decided to check it out after being drawn in by the photos, the reviews, and the aesthetics of the space. This may sound a bit nitpicky, but as someone who has dined in many restaurants and worked in hospitality for years, I think this place deserves an honest take.
To start, I was looking forward to trying their drinks. The cocktail list looked promising, and being a Spanish restaurant, I assumed they would have a strong tequila selection. That was not the case. I ordered an espresso martini and asked to substitute the vodka for tequila, something I do often. The server politely asked what type of tequila I preferred, so I asked what they had. She listed only Casamigos, Espolon, and Don Julio. That instantly lowered my expectations.
When the drink arrived, it was even more disappointing. It tasted like straight espresso with tequila, no balance, no sweetness, and no Kahlua or syrup to round it out. I did not say anything because mistakes happen, but it was not a good start.
For food, we decided on the Boquera Experience after our server recommended it as a way to sample several dishes. Unfortunately, it fell flat. We received six courses, and most of them felt like basic reheated appetizers, mostly carbs and starches with very little protein. The only dishes with any substance were the octopus, which was chewy and bland, and the final paella, which was equally underwhelming. The seafood quality was poor with tiny shrimp instead of prawns, small clams and mussels, and very little overall flavor. Not one dish stood out. We both left feeling like we would have been better off ordering a la carte or going somewhere else entirely.
Service-wise, nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out either. For a restaurant with such an elevated look and feel, I expected more knowledge, attentiveness, and polish from the staff. It felt like the service did not really understand the dishes or how to enhance the dining experience.
Overall, it is a beautiful restaurant with a nice ambiance, but that is really where it stops. The drinks, food, and service all fell short of expectations. If you go, go for the visuals, not the experience.
