We arrived at the restaurant looking forward to a New Year’s meal, but were told that our group of six could not be accommodated, despite several available tables that could have been combined. We were then asked to wait outside in 20-degree weather for twenty minutes to potentially get a table. Our group ultimately had to sit at two different tables.
Two of us ordered the veggie popover. When our food arrived, we received a stale bread basket instead of the popover we had hoped to enjoy.
Additionally, the vegetarian dish was missing the goat cheese. We were not informed that instead of the popover we would get an inedible break basket nor that the place run out of goat cheese. It would have been nice to let us so we could order something else from the menu.
Overall, the staff was quite unprofessional and not attentive.
A massive disappointment for anyone looking to have a popover, or enjoy a meal for that matter.

Pop overs are the thing to try. Just about anything you want. Whether it be savory or sweet, there are tons of options. A pop over is a shell that is made of flour and egg and they stuff it was just about anything you want. My wife had a traditional plain one with honey butter. I had the chicken pop pie. If you’re a Mystic, you need to check this place out.

As someone who’s dairy free, I normally don’t have many options at restaurants that aren’t vegan! This place offers gluten, dairy free and vegan meals. Both of our meals were delicious, good portions, and the staff is super friendly.

Popover Bistro & Bakery — Mystic’s Bright, Cozy, Can’t-Miss Favorite
Popover in Mystic has quickly become one of our absolute staples since moving nearby, and it’s so easy to see why. From the moment you walk in, the whole place feels warm and welcoming. It’s bright, clean, cheerful, and filled with that easygoing energy that makes you want to sit down, relax, and enjoy the moment. There’s plenty of seating, lots of natural light, and a modern-but-comfortable atmosphere that’s just… happy. It instantly puts you in a good mood.
And the food? Absolutely incredible. Their chicken pot pie served on top of a popover is hands-down one of the best comfort dishes around. The popover is beautifully baked — crisp and golden on the outside, airy and tender inside — and when you pair it with the rich, creamy pot pie filling, it’s truly to die for. It’s unique, comforting, and something you’ll crave again and again.
Their mochas are another favorite. They’re consistently delicious: rich, warm, and perfectly balanced. It’s the kind of drink that makes you take a deep breath and settle into your chair just a little deeper. A mocha and that pot pie together? Perfection.
Of course, a place is only as special as its people, and Megan deserves a huge shoutout. She is wonderful — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely joyful. She has that rare ability to make guests feel seen and appreciated, and she brings so much warmth to the space. She’s a big part of what makes Popover feel like a true community spot.
And speaking of community — Popover goes all out when it comes to holiday decorations and seasonal themes. They don’t just sprinkle in a few festive touches; they dive in headfirst. Their “Winter Nights” theme is magical, but honestly the whole place transforms beautifully with every holiday. Lights, displays, thoughtful décor… it all creates a fun, whimsical atmosphere that makes visiting feel special, no matter the time of year.
What I love most is that you truly cannot go wrong with anything you order here. The food is always fresh, creative, and made with so much care. Popover is the kind of place you find yourself going back to again and again — not just because the food is amazing, but because the entire experience is consistently wonderful.
Popover Eatery isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a ray of sunshine in Mystic.
A place that feels welcoming and warm.
A place we’re genuinely grateful to have as a go-to favorite.
We love it, we recommend it wholeheartedly, and it will absolutely remain one of our regular spots as long as we’re here.

Portions were on the smaller side for an $18 plate. I've gotten more flavor and bigger portions for less at other local places. My eggs and potatoes were extremely bland. No seasoning at all it seemed. Either the eggs or the ketchup tasted as if they were freezer-burned/poorly stored. I honestly couldn't tell which it was. The gluten free English muffin was absolutely delicious. Probably the best gluten free English muffin I've had. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles and he was satisfied with no complaints. The server was so sweet and attentive. Very bubbly and genuinely in a great mood. I went and looked at the discounted day old baked goods and the 3 items that were there were riddled with mold. This was our 2nd time visiting and only my first time being somewhat disappointed, so I would be open to trying them again.
