I am deeply disappointment regarding the way I was treated at Stop & Shop on lave Ave in Danbury this Sunday morning. With Thanksgiving only two days away, I understand it was a busy time, but what I experienced was completely unacceptable.
I am a loyal customer who spends a significant amount of money in this store because it is conveniently close to my home. I was next in line when one of the supervisors, an older Caucasian woman, opened a new register and intentionally skipped over me to call the Caucasian woman behind me instead. I tried to let it go, but moments later another employee, an African-American woman, heavy set with shaved edges, did the exact same thing. She looked directly at me and still called the woman behind me rather than the next person in line.
This pattern of being skipped over back-to-back was humiliating and felt like clear racial profiling. For the first time, I was so upset that I left an entire cart of groceries and walked out. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I’ve witnessed management treat customers—myself and others, in an unprofessional and dismissive manner.
As of today, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I hope this matter is addressed so no other customer has to experience what I did.
