  The temperature in this country is no secret people are able to display their prejudice, racial bias With a shield of protection. Apparently having a “black “manager (what I was told when calling and requesting to speak to a leader) however that does not zero out the possibility that an employee could be racist. Just because someone is your subordinate does not mean that they don’t have their own issues with people of that race. Cultural competency should be something that is revisited often to make sure that all of your customers feel welcome. Also it shouldn’t matter Whether you are a customer or an Uber or Instacart driver you’re still a patron of that establishment at the time of your presence common courtesy is clearly lacking. Treat people the same there’s no reason someone who waited for forty minutes is not even asked if they needed asssistance. The two white women one who was also doing uber who had only waited for 5 minutes was helped immediately without her needing to ask or prompt anyone. The second lady was instantly helped as well. I myself have been shopping at Stop & Shop for over 15 years and I’ve been quite loyal to the establishment as a whole it’s one store that I typically can rely on but unfortunately not every store represents the same standard. .

  Clean, well stocked, friendly staff. Their peapod pickup is pretty good!

  The store has good products at good prices, and the check out people in the self-serve area are friendly and pleasant to deal with. However, on top this, this store has developed a culture of surveillance and uncivil suspicion that rivals an East German workplace in 1973. Parts of their work force shadow people, jump to conclusions, and may bark out "security alert" on the store's PA system without real cause. Their inner secret police suspect theft long before anyone has avoided paying for anything. (I am not the first person to point this out). It's not rational, not friendly, and, most significantly, utterly un-necessary. They avoid many simpler ways of ascertaining that a customer is within the law: like calmly watching them pay for their stuff and getting a receipt instead of a) wasting a lot of energy jumping to conclusions b) insulting and alienating regular customers with this hokum. This is sadly unique in my experience of grocery shopping nationwide and abroad.
