The Woodland Park Safeway is normally a very pleasant shopping experience. This Safeway places signage on their entrance door that plainly states only Service Dogs are permitted in the store. What frustrates me is that a very large light brown poodle (not a Service Dog) was walking around the store with it's owner. Dogs or animals of any kind are prohibited in grocery stores for hygienic reasons as it is desigated as a sanitary environment. I love dogs, however, I am very allergic to them as well. I sneezed and coughed all night after being in contact with this poodle that was roaming the aisles of Safeway with it's owner on the early evening of 12/30/26. The Woodland Park Walmart also has signage that prohibits animals with the exception of Service Dogs. However, Walmart could care less about cleanliness and hygienic conditions and this was the reason I now shop at the Woodland Park Safeway. I have unfortunately witnessed dogs, cats, even pet birds defacating, urinating and dogs actually biting and jumping up on store patrons in the aisles of the Woodland Park Walmart. If I continue to see another non Service Dog in this Safeway then I will be forced to take my business elsewhere because this is very unhygienic and unacceptable to have animals running around food items possibly defecating and urinating in the aisles with their pet dander and fleas possibly irritating shopper's pet allergies. At times when I do encounter a store patron with a Service Dog, I gladly understand and navigate around that working animal to ensure that my allergies are not adversely impacted. However, I should not be in fear of experiencing a severe allergic reaction due to a pet owner who has an unnecessary need to bring their non Service Dog into what should be a sanitary environment. Safeway in Woodland Park, is a great grocery store with very friendly employees. If you place signage on your entrance doors, please enforce your rules and require your store patrons to please leave their pets out of the store.

Good store. Unexpected finds at a grocery store is fun. Prices seem a bit high but I’m not sure it’s their fault. Best Rx in Woodland Park for sure though.
