While some things have changed over the last few decades, El Pollo Loco's delivery of fresh, authentic food has not. Everything starts with whole chickens that are slowly marinated in a special recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices and garlic. The chicken is then expertly fire-grilled to perfection the authentic way - on our signature open-flame grills - then hand cut into your favorite Mexican entrees. We put that same dedication and care into our handmade guacamole, salsas and dressings every day. At El Pollo Loco in Denver, CO, we believe that when real food meets real fire the result is great taste that will keep you coming back again and again.
First and last time at El Pollo Loco. The chicken was dry, the salads had no flavor at all, and honestly none of the food was flavorful. Even the lemonade tasted like chemicals. The only decent part was the tortillas. Definitely not coming back.

I work nearby and have eaten here a few times over the last couple of years. It's good food, the staff is friendly, their service is quick and the place is clean. Can't really ask for much more.

Greg at this Pollo Loco made our experience so fun! He was goofing around at the drive through and actually made our fast food experience worth it ! The food was great, chicken was fresh and the rice and beans were amazing.

This review serves as a detailed account of a technical error involving a Chicken Meal for 2 to-go order (4PC Leg/Thigh, 2 Sides, 2 Salads, and 2 Churros), priced at $16.99 ($18.35 after tax). The primary concern involves a significant bug in the POS system that appears to double-charge customers when a gift card balance is insufficient to cover a full total. In this instance, a gift card with a $17.61 balance was applied, which should have left a remaining total of $0.74 ($18.35 - $17.61). However, the system followed a flawed sequence where it drained the gift card to zero yet still proceeded to charge the credit card for the full $18.35.
During the initial transaction at 11:09 AM, the manager, Maria, appeared to acknowledge the gift card deduction but processed the full amount on the credit card regardless. This resulted in a total overpayment of $35.96 ($17.61 + $18.35) for the meal. Because the printed customer receipt failed to show the gift card tender details, the initial attempt at a resolution at 11:14 AM involved a refund of the full credit card amount to try a second transaction. However, this second attempt failed because the gift card had already been depleted to zero by the first transaction, a fact only confirmed after calling the automated balance information number listed on the back of the card.
The conflict persisted for another 20 minutes as management initially expressed frustration and skepticism, suggesting the restaurant was not responsible for the missing funds. It was only after a persistent dispute and a request to review the internal store records at 11:35 AM that the truth was revealed. The manager’s internal screen eventually showed an itemized digital receipt confirming that both the $17.61 gift card and the $18.35 credit card charge had been processed in that order during the first attempt. Once the error was confirmed and the customer's integrity was vindicated, the manager provided the food and waived the remaining $0.74 balance as a courtesy for the "weird" system behavior and the significant inconvenience caused.
The flavor of the food met standard expectations, but the poor interaction and lack of staff training made it impossible to provide a complimentary review. Serious improvements are required regarding the POS system, which fails to charge correct amounts for combined tenders. Furthermore, the printed receipts are inadequate as they omit gift card deductions, leaving customers with no proof of payment. The staff also demonstrated a lack of professional courtesy and technical training; it took over 20 minutes to resolve a problem that should have been identified immediately via internal logs. Without a personal investigation into the matter, the result would have been a loss of $17.61 and a departure without the ordered food.
Prospective customers should be aware that the POS system may still contain this bug. It is highly recommended to verify gift card balances and carefully inspect transaction totals before leaving the counter, as the printed receipts do not reflect genuine transaction details when multiple payment methods are used. Management must prioritize training to ensure staff can efficiently verify transactions rather than questioning the honesty of the customers.
