  Every time I shop at the Cortez CO Safeway there is a problem at checkout. Yesterday there were 4 customers in self check and everyone of us had trouble checking out. The products on sale did not show the sales price even after totaling the order. Unfortunately the Safeway employee did not know how to correct the problem. She just kept saying the correct price would show up when the order was totaled . Never did and she did not know how to fix the problem. She tried but did not accomplish anything. I ended up just leaving my cart and walking away. Other customers had to wait a long time at customer service after being charged the wrong price. No employee was at the customer service desk. Finally a woman checked out but was only able to purchase one item from.her cart and had to leave the rest there. On het way out of the store this woman was kind enough to find another employee and asked the employee to help.the customer that had to go to the customer service counter. It is always a problem trying to check out at this Safeway. Sometimes items listed on the sales flyer I get in the mail are not in stock. Poor management. Poorly trained employees. Very frustrating place to try and shop. This is why Walmart and City Market in Cortez are always crowded but very few people shop at Safeway. Sad. I would rather shop at Safeway, best quality meat, great pharmacy etc but just too frustrating and time consuming to have to wait for an employee to correct the check out problems.

  I used the Safeway pharmacy for years. I because a disabled Veteran in 2014 and most of my meds come from ABQ VA. I had a total knee surgery in Durango on Sep. 18th. I had my first set of pain pills sent to Walgreens as it is more convenient (has a drive through) and O can’t walk far yet. Then I change to Safeway because they have pharmacists on the weekend. I had absolutely no issues with the first pharmacist I encountered there as she has helped me and my family many times. Then I go back the next week and there is a different and older lady there. I had planned on just paying cash because it is hard to get immediate drug delivery from ABQ. I go in and the pharmacist was rude, told me my meds were in the safe when they were not. The next fill a week later, the same older pharmacist said I needed a prior authorization from Medicaid before she could fill it. I don’t have Medicare and said I’d pay out of pocket. She then told me it was a Safeway Policy to not sell oxicodone to someone for cash. That is when I hobbled out. I spent about half the night laying in the floor writhing in pain. First, In a nurse and feel insulted. Second, I feel like a second class citizen being caught doing something wrong. Third I was in excruciating pain and lost 2 nights of sleep. 4rth, I had a fresh scar on my knee and the script came from Mercy Orthopedics. I’d say my treatment was unethical and very rude. I go to mercy pharmacy after talking to my docs about how I ran out, I was set to mercy’s pharmacy and out the door in 10 minutes.

  Always great service, hardly ever any lives at all. A wonderful selection of cheeses, favorite part but great quality meat and bakery items as well. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. We love this store! Pickup orders are fast and usually ready earlier than expected. Delivery is also available and a nice alternative when you can't leave home. We are in Mancos and they deliver here with minimum fees.
