Velvet Elk Lounge was born from the desire to create a small, funky, live music venue in Boulder where you can get a proper cocktail and listen to great, local music. When there's not a live band, check the calendar for DJ events, open mic nights, dance your pants off parties, and a host of other happenings.
We also offer the perfect setting for private gatherings of all sizes, complete with the charm and flair that only the Velvet Elk Lounge can provide. Whether it's a lively party or an elegant soirée, let us set the stage for your special occasion.
This space has been home to many Boulder businesses including a Cadillac dealership, a bowling alley, a long-standing travel agency, and now a palace of music and fun.

Sound system was a little loud in such a small space, but other than that it was a really great show. The food was also fantastic that we munched on before began. Bartenders were great and the beer was cold. I would definitely come back here again.

The space itself is inviting, the staff is genuinely friendly, and there’s a strong variety of entertainment that keeps things interesting night to night. It’s the kind of place you can settle into and enjoy for a while. One piece of constructive feedback: the bar flow could use some refinement. Right now, the visible measuring of alcohol can feel a bit off-putting and gives the impression that bartenders aren’t fully comfortable with specialty or house drinks yet. Additionally, the bar setup could be optimized—more clearly defined service stations, fewer chairs crowding the bar, and better organization of tools (glassware, soda gun, register) would go a long way. I noticed bartenders having to move up and down the bar just to complete a single drink—in lieu of pouring in one spot. As a Colorado Native I highly recommend this hot spot!
