I’ve been living in Ventura for over 30 years, and out of all the places I go in town, it’s kind of funny that this is probably the one I visit the most. Vons (115 W Main St.) has always been my dependable, close-by grocery store—and over time, it’s come to feel like my neighborhood spot.
Honestly, I like it so much that sometimes I’ll grab food from somewhere else on the avenue and still end up coming here just to sit in the parking lot and eat in my truck. It just feels like my spot. And after I’m done eating, I’ll occasionally walk inside and grab a quick drink or something just to finish off the meal right.
Even though it’s a larger chain, this location has a really familiar, easygoing vibe. I’ve been seeing a lot of the same people working here for years, and that consistency makes it feel comfortable—almost like a small neighborhood grocery store (even though it’s quite large!). Everyone seems focused, friendly, and just doing their job well.
I probably interact the most with the deli team, and they’ve always been great. Greg and the crew are consistently friendly and easy to deal with. The breakfast burritos and sandwiches are some of my go-to items, and somehow the breakfast burritos are still $5.99, which is pretty rare these days. The chicken is consistently good too, and I’m a big fan of the macaroni salad, potato salad, and the other deli sides.
I also really appreciate the self-checkout setup here. They’ve got five stations, and there’s always someone nearby to help if needed, which keeps things moving. A lot of times I’m just stopping in for something quick—lunch, a drink, or a small item—and not having to wait in a long line makes a big difference.
Ventura has a lot of great spots, but this is one that’s been a steady part of my routine for a long time. Nothing flashy—just reliable, consistent, and easy to count on.
