Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The food was just okay at best and lacked flavor, which was especially underwhelming for Peruvian cuisine, where bold flavors are expected. Nothing stood out, and overall it felt uninspired. What made the experience worse was being misled about the drinks. Our server, Flor (name might have been Rosa after reading the response from the owner), told us that the passion fruit was fresh, when it clearly was not. That lack of honesty was frustrating and further diminished our trust in the experience. Between the bland food and the misleading information, this is not a place I would return to. Very disappointed.

I placed and paid for an order through an online app at the Van Nuys location of Chios Peruvian Grill. When I arrived, the restaurant was closed due to plumbing issues. There was no notice in the app and no attempt to stop or refund the charge beforehand. I then went to the Sepulveda location. The staff contacted the owner, and it was the owner’s direct decision that I should pay for the exact same order a second time, with the promise that the Van Nuys location would reimburse me later. This was not a staff decision — it came from the owner herself. I was understandably frustrated and did speak disrespectfully to the employee. I take responsibility for that and regret directing my frustration at staff who were put in the middle of a bad management decision. What makes this worse is that when the owner later called me (from a blocked number) to tell me I was no longer welcome at the restaurant, she clearly knew why I ordered, what I ordered, and exactly how much I was charged. That alone proves she had all the information needed to simply transfer the order or authorize it at the other location instead of forcing me to pay twice. This was a conscious choice by the owner to take a poor customer service route, one that created unnecessary conflict and put her employees at risk of dealing with an upset customer over something completely outside their control. Refusing to provide owner or management contact information, offering only a vague refund timeline, and then banning a customer instead of taking accountability shows extremely poor leadership. I wasn’t planning on returning anyway, but this experience confirmed that decision. ****The fact that you are lying on this platform is a testament to the service you provide. The only reason I got loud with the waitress was because you gave a direct order to charge me twice. You did not offer the option to transfer the order to the sepulveda location. The waitress told me that the owner said we can serve you here but you have to pay for the same order and wait for a refund in a couple days. In no world is that reasonable specially when there are people living check by check. What if that was my last funds ? Thank god it wasn’t but you are not seeing the bigger picture and that is the issue. Poor leadership and on top of that fabricating the situation to make it seem like I was just upset for no reason. I am glad this happened and I got to see who is running this business and the character they have. Only thing I regret is supporting this business since it opened.

I love Chio’s Peruvian food and wish they still had a restaurant location in Tarzana and in Woodland Hills. But my recent stop to Van Nuys location was a testament to the fact this place still rocks.

Food at this place is a hit or miss it depends on the mood of the cook. Sometimes can be salty like their lomo saltado and under salted steak that by the way is very fatty with a lot of nerves which I thought was a parasite one of the times and it really grossed me out. I have also had their rotisserie chicken plate and again a hot or miss, sometimes dry if you get lucky and go early you might get fresh chicken if not you’ll get whatever has been sitting there all day, another time I had the panko fried fish in sauce with mixed seafood it sounded good text Steve the First is like writing some oil by the time I got home. So this place is cancelled until they get it together with food also service is slow as they only have one waitress working multiple task as she frequently goes to the kitchen stay there don’t come back to check up on you to see if everything is OK. You kinda have to waver down and that’s what she’s paying attention cause she could be on the phone or away in another table.l, overall it sucks!!!!

Delicious! The food was 10/10! I ordered the Lomo Saltado and my dad had the Arroz con Mariscos, which is similar to a seafood risotto, and both were soo good. We sat ourselves and were quickly attended to. Our waitress was very friendly and checked on us multiple times. We will definitely be back!
