When we asked for plates, they just gave us pieces of paper instead! The fries were greasy and partly burnt, and the presentation was terrible. Serving peanuts for free began as a way for people to pass the time while they waited for us to cook up their meals (way back in the day, before smartphones). It was such a hit, and has become such a Five Guys tradition, that we keep our stores stocked with peanuts to this day.
