Had such a bad experience here I’m still thinking about it. I ordered a heart-shaped cake from the bakery for my baby shower. I ordered it online, because they had it as an option. I’m 8 months pregnant, and went to pick it up the day before my baby shower. The lady who gave me the cake didn’t make it but she even admitted it didn’t look like a heart. We took the cake anyway because we unfortunately didn’t have time to have it re made or get it somewhere else, but I don’t think you should advertise heart-shaped cakes if you can’t make them. When we went to the check out line to pay for the cake (we weren’t even offered a discount or anything) I was standing at the end of the checkout texting my sister about the cake while my mother was paying, and the man working the register SLAPPED the counter at me like a dog, attempting to startle me off of being on my phone. When I looked up at him he made an extremely rude comment about how he likes to do that to people who have their face in their phones, basically trying to shame me for being on my phone in public. I am not a child who needs to be taught a lesson and I was not being rude to him whatsoever. I unfortunately did not get his name but he was an older guy working the express lane on Thursday 1/8/2026 at around 4pm. If you want to be publicly shamed/dehumanized while paying for a product that isn’t what you ordered, go to this Safeway.

I’m in here twice a week, and honestly, I regret it every single time. While some of the floor staff are helpful, the checkout process is a disaster. The lines are always backed up because the cashiers are too busy chatting with each other to move at a reasonable pace. Expect to wait at least 15 minutes just to pay. To top it off, there’s never anyone bagging; if you don't do it yourself, the staff gives you a major guilt trip through their body language while they slowly reach for a bag. I keep coming back for convenience, but the service is consistently draining.

have lived near Safeway on Calistoga Rd for over 30 years. They have always been reliably stocked with everything and with someone helpful and knowledgeable there to help. Late last night a young employee helped me find an electrolyte replacement solution using their computerized system. I had seen it online as well, and she knew what she was doing. Safeway's home delivery option was essential to my survival during my hip and knee surgeries that kept me off my feet and out of my car. It lifted my spirits to have a bit more self-sufficiency. Safeway's management always has someone to help with complications or complaints. The 4th street manager helped with home delivery questions. Safeway's option to buy online or buy mega-packs has made meat affordable through the recent inflation crisis. I appreciate knowing Safeway is a nearby resource within walking distance if necessary.
