Élephante in Santa Monica is an absolute gem — hands down one of the most magical dining experiences in Los Angeles right now!
From the moment you step onto the rooftop, you're transported to a breezy coastal Italian paradise. The space is stunning: lush cactus gardens, natural wood and stone accents, loungelike vibes, and those unbeatable ocean views that make every sunset feel cinematic. Whether you're in the sunset room or out on the terrace catching the breeze, the ambiance is chic, lively, and effortlessly cool — perfect for a date night, celebratory dinner with friends, or just soaking up Santa Monica's best energy.
The food? Pure delight. This isn't just "scene" food; the kitchen delivers serious talent with Southern Mediterranean-inspired coastal Italian dishes that surprise and satisfy. The **whipped eggplant** is legendary — rich, creamy, drizzled with olive oil, and served with fresh-baked puccia bread that's impossible to stop eating. Pastas are a highlight: the vodka pasta is silky and addictive, the cacio e pepe perfectly balanced, and options like rigatoni verde with mushroom ragù or squid ink gemelli with Dungeness crab bring bold, flavorful twists. Pizzas (especially the soppressata) come out crisp and delicious, and shareable small plates like grilled octopus or calamari fritti keep the table buzzing. We finished with the pavlova — light, dreamy, topped with white chocolate mousse, vanilla bean ice cream, and fresh passion fruit — it was the ideal sweet ending.
Cocktails are creative and spot-on, the wine list thoughtful, and service is warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without being stuffy. Yes, it gets lively (even a bit noisy on weekends), but that's part of the fun — it's a place where everyone seems to be having a great time.
Élephante isn't just a meal; it's an escape. Michelin-recognized for good reason, with incredible views, elevated yet approachable food, and that irresistible Santa Monica magic. If you're in LA, book this spot — you won't regret it. Easily one of my favorite restaurants, and I'll be counting down the days until I can go back!
5/5 stars — highly, enthusiastically recommend!
