First and foremost there is no dress code to speak of ,people slump in off the street in whatever they have on. Major disappointment to me andmy wife. The food was good and the service was even better. The staff was on top of it and very personable. I definately will be back just dressed down like im going to applebees or dennys😆.

The food was great, good service, the room is dark as heck, could barely see what is was eating. But 2 things made this experience a 4 star and not a 5 star. I blame the bartender. I asked for a Siesta cocktail. And I know not everyone knows what one is. But a good bartender will look it up on several bartender apps. But unfortunately, the bartender didn't pay attention to how to serve one. I got served with ice in a HiBall glass. Any trained bar man or mixologists will know if a drink has Campari, it's going to be an aperitif. Therefore it's always served neat. Always serve in a nick n nora or a coupe glass. So I bring it up to the attention of waiter.Waiter takes it away and comes back with a poured into a big coupe. The problem is they didn't remake it.So now it's ultra diluted. So I figured i'm working with an inexperienced bartender, so I just drink it as is, and don't complain any further. But then I ordered a double espresso macchiato with my dessert. I usually order one to offset the sweetness of dessert. Never got. I was presented with the bill. I reminded her to 86 the espresso. Details people, details. It was a Tuesday evening, your weren't that busy.

We went to the steakhouse and were highly disappointed. We order around $600 of food for 3 people. They charged for the bread and brought a few pieces. Nothing special. Full of butter and garlic. For a restaurant with such high prices you would thing the break is included. NO. The starters were so small and very low quality shrimps (3 pieces) with tons of sauce. They said in their menu they were jumbo shrimps. They were regular shrimps drowned in sauce. The calamari was chewy and so few pieces. Both had so much garlic you could not taste the actual food. It is easy to mask the quality of food with butter and garlic. Then we ordered wagyu beef and the fish for main course. The so called wagyu beef was so hard and chewy. I have had both wagyu and kobe beef in Japan. The one we got at Mastro did not taste anything like the ones I had in Japan. Even buying Waguy beef from Costco is not only cheaper but also higher quality and tastier than the one we got at Mastro. Again, tons of butter on it. You could only taste the butter and garlic. The fish was supposed to have a crust of herb on it. The only thing added to it was loads of butter and garlic. The garlic was the main ingredient in everything we ordered. Then we ordered the french fries fried in waguy grease. NO. It was just regular fries fried in some cheap oil but at the price of gold. We also had fried broccoli. Again the main ingredient was garlic and butter. There was so much garlic salt and butter on it you could hardly taste the broccoli itself! We also ordered the gnocchi with mushroom. It was loaded with butter, garlic and cream. Oh my GOD it was so displeasing. For the price we paid for 3 people it was a grand disappointment. It is a good restaurant if you have a gift card to waste or show off to people telling them you can spend a lot of money. However, everything about the food was disappointing. The decor and ambiance were very mediocre and it was very cold in the restaurant. We asked 3 times for the temperature to be raised. It was not. The manager/owner showed up and said she is boiling since she had raised the temperature for us. However, it was obvious that she was not being honest since all 3 of us froze. It was so uncomfortable to just sit there in the cold and wait for our food to be presented while freezing. We could not wait to get out of there. They also made a mistake on our bill which we brought to their attention. They corrected it. However, it left a very bad taste in our mouth. Do not recommend it.

Basically, searched for best steakhouse in the Bay Area closer to home rather SF. Finally, chose this place. 2 American Wagyu, 2 Australian Tomahawk steakhouse, and 2 Japanese Wagyu styles.... I usually eat seafood rather beef; however, once I saw Tomahawk then I have to try..... Eaten American Wagyu and Japanese A5 Wagyu most of the time. This time I tried Australian Tomahawk 32 oz together with my son...He loves steak.... Too much for me with even 16 oz, usually 8 oz...So, we splitted.... Very good with medium rare...He loves it.... For me since I tried a lot already, the taste smell and taste roughly the same or a little wetter than American.... Of course, Japanese A5 is definitely much better, really melted in your mouth..... My wife ordered Chilean sea bass, Baked.... Not seared...I have done so many seared so many sea bass at home already, not bake though....You need commercial type oven or opened flame BBQ to bake at home. I just don't have any commercial type at home.... Atmosphere is good. Soup, fried calamari are excellent. Thin, lightly floured and not thick like other restaurants. Mastro Magarita is excellent. Even, my son breaks his own rule for continous day of alcohol and tried the last half opened glass until last drop..... Anyway, steaks are excellent at the Joint.... Services are excellent too..... This is my 5 Stars recommendation for anyone happens to travel down to San Jose area and do enjoy......
