service was fine and restaurant was crowded thanks to 49ers game, but food was less than average and reminded me of menu from Applebee's .... which is also never nearly as good as you'd like comfort food to be vs a decent diner.... even the chicken tender bites from the kids menu were dry and over cooked though the fries were ok - the chicken burrito bowl was bland and boring .... probably mostly frozen or bowl in a bag food from the lack of flavor

The service was not the best. Once we had ordered, the waitress forgot our drinks and we had to follow up several times of when our orders would arrive.
The food could not have been any worse. We ordered French onion pastry, hot honey feta dip, deviled eggs, house bread, and pot roast sandwich. Everything was overly salted, oily, and you could expect clogged arteries by the end of meal.
Not to forget, we had to ask for plates and condiments as they were never provided in the beginning.
Our experience was not the best and we don’t recommend dining here unless you expect a heart attack. Lastly, all the salt in the food has drained the life out of the workers.

This is a tough one. If you go to Lazy Dog for cheap food and drinks, then yes, it is an absolute 5 stars. And perhaps that is what it should be. However, when we are served Kraft Mac n Cheese and Costco Orange Chicken for the kid's meals, you start to lose a bit of faith. I'm not saying they are exactly that. But that is the caliber of food - frozen or instant food. The ribs are tough, the chicken meatballs in tikka masala sauce is "commerical" at best. And again, yes, it is cheap considering the location and the atmosphere you get. Yes, this is where you'd go to get beer and burgers, and hang out with a bunch of friends. I get all that. But also, if there was just a little bit more attention to the quality of the food, it really would've hit it out of the park.
I don't want to nit pick on each and every dish but you'll sense the lack of focused cooking here. Everything feels like it was reheated or commercially prepared in large batches.
I've only upgraded it to 4 stars because I think my expectations were unreasonable. It is what it is. But at the same time, this could be something really awesome - like Pinstripes in Hillsdale Mall.

What is like about this place is the food is consistently good every time we come here. This location in San Mateo makes it a little one busier end during the weekends and happy hour, but other than that we never have to wait long for a table when we visit.
Best thing is being able to bring youe dog with you on the patio area when its nice out. We love that as dog parents lol

Last night my party of six arrived at Lazy Dog for dinner about 5pm. We requested to sit by the fireplace as only two tables were occupied. We were told we could not as there was only one server available.
Then we were offered a curved booth in the opposite corner of the restaurant near the patio. As soon as we sat down we could smell a urine odor and decided not to sit there.
We went back to the desk and told them.
No concern or apology.
They said we would have to wait up to 45 minutes.
As we waited customers kept coming in getting immediately seated as we sat there waiting. The fireplace room still with only two tables occupied.
Customer service was completely lacking.
After waiting for over 20 minutes we left.
It was so disappointing and annoying.
We have been to Lazy Dog many times and loved it. Last night it was terrible.
