Mixed shopping experience, the produce looked fresh and there was a good selection, though a checkout issue slowed down the process

Buy mostly produce, dairy products and barbecue sauces, and bottled/canned sandwich condiments like pickles, and peppers. Used to buy liquid smoke here, but tier selection is declining. This store when it opened was a Safeway Marketplace format, and had great selection of sauces and other stuff. Seems like the selection is still there, but scaled back a little. There produced selection is decent, but is a little too much of general mainstream produce. Wheeler they have open areas for things like hot and bell peppers, they are scaling back on open counter mushrooms, and even potatoes. Pricing on what they have is similar to pre packaged stuff, without a lot of local, high quality open stock. Some stuff is offered beyond its time. There is a reasonable selection of organic produce, and process are competitive with non organic, which is a nice departure from high end stores. There dairy department is often picked through, and lower cost organic have bumped in price from supply shortages, but never retreated. Watch the expiration dates on your purchases, as they sometimes seem to lack oversight on that. Not sure how you can be put off a product one week, and then have 1/2 and 1/2 enduring in a few days the next week. Like to see the store stock more high quality bar newer sauces without marking them up to oblivion. Not sure the recent acquisition by Albertsons was a good thing. Steel seems to be losing its identity, and going to the homogenization of America format.

Everything is overpriced. Why should I pay about 50-60% more for the same packaged food, made by the same company, that I can get at Walmart for a lot cheaper? What additional value does Safeway add?
