This was one of the most disrespectful and confrontational customer service experiences I have ever had.
I entered this Vons with my certified service animal. My dog barked once after being startled by a large, fully loaded moving cart moving directly toward him. He stopped immediately when the cart passed and after I gave a verbal command. The situation was already under control.
A staff member who appeared to be a manager or head cashier then approached me and said, “If your dog barks again, you will have to leave.” I attempted to calmly explain what happened, but she cut me off repeatedly and said, “This is a grocery store. If your dog is scared of carts, it shouldn’t be in the store.” She did not allow me to finish a single sentence.
To avoid further conflict, I grabbed two drinks and walked directly toward self-checkout to leave the store. At that point, she followed me, physically stopped me from walking forward, shoved a printed notice in front of me, and repeatedly commanded me with a single word: “READ.” Not a request—just “READ.”
I told her that my dog is a service animal and that I was checking out and leaving. She again interrupted me, insisted I read the paper, and then stated that “a service animal does not bark” and that “if a dog barks, it is not a service animal.” This statement is factually incorrect and directly contradicts ADA regulations.
Under the ADA, service animals are allowed as long as they are under control. A single, brief bark—especially when immediately corrected—does not disqualify a service animal. She is not qualified to make that determination, yet she repeatedly asserted it as fact while blocking my exit.
The entire incident—from the single bark to checkout—lasted less than three minutes. My dog was no longer barking, and I was already leaving. Despite this, she continued to follow me and said, “Make sure you don’t bring your dog into the store again.”
This was not about safety. This was about an employee escalating a resolved situation, interrupting a customer, using commanding language, and enforcing her own incorrect interpretation of the law. The behavior was unprofessional, humiliating, and unacceptable.
If this is how customers—especially those with service animals—are treated, I will not be returning to this location.

This was the best pharmacy experience I've had in a long while. The pharmacist was very attentive and patient as I tried to track down my medication. She was caring and gentle with other patients around me. They were timely and explained all the medications that I inquired about.
I will use them as my primary pharmacy moving forward. Thank you guys! What a great team.
