World renowned for its award winning "New Style" Japanese cuisine, Nobu continues to offer savvy diners across the globe a culinary adventure. Our San Diego location is yet another canvas for Chef Nobu Matsuhisa to display his legendary dishes, such as the Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno.
The restaurant which is nestled in the perennially hip and centrally located Hard Rock Hotel also features unique creations by Executive Chef David Meade who has honed his skill at Nobu locations in Miami and New York. Nobu San Diego delivers equally on food, impeccable service and ambiance that is sophisticated yet lively.
We're locals to San Diego so very accustomed to good sushi. Normally, when you go to a sushi restaurant and you order nigiri or sashimi, you get 2 pieces of nigiri or 5 pieces of sashimi per order. That is not the case here; you pay PER piece. That would be fine if the quality was exceptional, but unfortunately we were wildly disappointed. The tuna crispy rice is supposedly one of their signature share plates and it was both far too crunchy and lacking in flavor as well, for nearly $40 for two small bites of food, it was disappointing. Save yourself the headache and go across the street to The Henry Coronado. They have a far better crispy right and wayyy better sushi options for less than half the price.

Had dinner tonight with a group in San Diego for a conference. We each ordered individually. I ordered the rock shrimp tempura which they brought first and was okay (best when piping hot, less appetizing once it started to cool off). I also ordered the spicy seafood soup based on the server's recommendation. They brought the soup second - it was a massive bowl and the smell was very off-putting. I tried to eat it and could not. The taste and smell made me so nauseated I could not continue to eat the rock shrimp and had to take a Zofran. I barely touched the soup, but the server never once asked if it was okay. They cleared my plated last in the entire group of 7, so I had to sit and smell it the entire time. When they did finally clear my plates, I told the server I could not eat the soup. They didn't acknowledge my comment, and of course still charged for it. It was literally the worst meal I have ever had, I'm still nauseous, and will never go back :(

Definitely a must, the sashimi was super fresh and the sauces for each dish were right on point. Biggest highlight was the octopus starter!

My first Nobu experience may be my only. Food was pretty good but nowhere near the hype this brand has. The experience was absolutely ruined by the volume experienced at this place! Literally got a sushi bill that was double what I expected because I couldn't hear the server say "priced individually (and required to order minimum) 2 pieces..." this place seems to attract drunk loud flashy unsophisticated young men who have no qualms about screaming their business across the table and to the rest of the restaurant. There were THREE tables behaving like this when we came in. My wife and I were forced to just browse on our phones because we couldn't yell loud enough to hear each other across our table. It was 40 minutes before the table behind us was finishing their deserts and it got quiet enough for us to realize that the restaurant was playing background music. My downloaded decibel app was showing a steady 90-95dB which jumped up to 100dB a few times when the table burst into laughter. TLDR; paid +$200 for a ruined romantic dinner in a restaurant whose hype attracts all the wrong people. Doubtful I would ever visit another Nobu when we can spend our money on restaurants that actually have Michelin stars.
