⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Came here to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely PERFECT. The food was incredible, the atmosphere was amazing, and the entire experience exceeded every expectation. Our waiter, John Ulch, truly made the night. His service was top-tier — friendly, attentive, and genuinely made sure everything was great from start to finish. He went above and beyond to make my birthday feel special, and his energy made the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for a place with amazing food, great vibes, and outstanding service, this is it. Huge shout-out to John for making my birthday unforgettable. Can’t wait to come back! 🎉🍽️🔥

Most of the time I don't really complain about places. I took my wife out for our anniversary. After being seated we wait more then 10 mins before anyone came to our table. We ordered some appetizers, our meal and a drink each. The drink they served was not the drink we ordered but did not wanted to create a big deal so we drank it. We ordered the sea scallops and ribeye and cream spinach. For $100 a steak it should come perfect, I ordered medium and it came out completely raw. Then while I took a bit of my cream spinach there was a piece of plastic in it. I was over this. I said something to the waiter. The manager came over and offered a dessert. So after spending $650 for a meal for two and finding plastic in my food you offer me a $20 dessert?? Not high end in my eyes.

We had a 6:30 PM reservation for 11 people, but were seated at a table meant for 10 with an extra chair added, which felt cramped and not appropriate for a fine-dining restaurant. We weren’t given menus until about 30 minutes after being seated. Although the server was polite, our drinks took another 30 minutes to arrive. The wait for our main courses was over an hour, and unfortunately the steaks were either overcooked or overly charred, considering this is a fine dining steakhouse with premium prices. Our overall experience was very disappointing due to the poor service and food quality. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Mastro’s in Midtown Manhattan has long been one of my favorite steakhouses, so when I found out they opened a location in San Diego shortly after I moved here, I was genuinely excited. Unfortunately, our visit last night was disappointing from start to finish—and nowhere near the standard I associate with the brand. Valet: For $30 valet parking, the process was surprisingly disorganized. There was no attendant when we arrived, and we had to circle the block multiple times before anyone showed up. Not exactly the warm, seamless welcome you expect from a high-end restaurant. Service & Timing: We had a 6:30 pm reservation for 11 guests. When we were seated, the table was clearly set for 10, with one extra chair awkwardly squeezed in. It was tight and uncomfortable, and adding another table would have been the obvious solution. It took about 45 minutes just to receive our drinks. After that, another long wait before we could order food. When I ordered the rack of lamb medium rare, the server insisted I order it medium instead, explaining that their “medium” is equivalent to other steakhouses’ medium rare. Odd, but I trusted the recommendation. Food arrived roughly 45 minutes later, and by then we’d already been given multiple rounds of bread to hold us over—only to later learn the bread wasn’t complimentary. The server rarely checked in, and overall the service felt disorganized and inattentive. Even dessert took longer than necessary. When my brother asked to order the butter cake, the server delayed placing the order because he wanted to finish boxing leftovers and then do a dessert presentation we didn’t ask for. At that point, the unnecessary waiting was exhausting. For a restaurant at this price point, the service felt chaotic, poorly paced, and far below expectations. Food: • Rack of Lamb: Overcooked, burned on the edges, no pink at all, and overly salty. • Chilean Sea Bass: Bland, dry, and not visually appealing. • Lobster Mashed Potatoes: Decent flavor but watery—very different from the rich, creamy version I’m used to in NYC. • Cocktail (Strawberry Rhubarb Gimlet): Extremely sweet with barely any hint of alcohol. • Dessert (Signature Warm Butter Cake – regular & seasonal pecan): Good flavor, but the texture was off. The regular version especially lacked the moist, melt-in-your-mouth consistency Mastro’s is known for. Others at the table ordered various steaks, and not a single person enjoyed theirs. The common complaint: overcooked and burned on the outside—definitely not medium. Overall: This was a very disappointing experience. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the food, service, and execution simply didn’t deliver. Sadly, this San Diego location doesn’t compare at all to Mastro’s in NYC. I really wanted to love it—but this visit was not worth the hype or the price.
