For years I really enjoyed dining here. The food, the view, Coasterra had it all. However, my last trip was so disappointing that I will never go back. The Chicken Caesar salad was a joke. A small handful of lettuce, 5 or 6 croutons and a few toasted seeds alongside approximately 4 ounces of over-seasoned grilled chicken was an insult given the cost of $36. All served on a huge plate that made it look even more ridiculous. Unfortunately my wife ordered the same. Toss in the mandatory "service fee", tax and tip and it was a waste of $100 for virtually nothing but a view.
Dining at Coasterra offered us a mix of highs and a few lows. On the bright side, the food was excellent: the guacamole was fresh, the ahi tuna tostada was flavorful, and the rainbow trout and mahi-mahi tacos were deliciously prepared. The view of the bay was absolutely beautiful and added to the overall ambiance.
However, the experience wasn’t without its hiccups. While the dishes themselves shone, the service was a bit disorganized. We had multiple different servers handling our table, which led to some confusion. Our appetizer order came out incorrectly, and we ended up waiting longer than expected for a kid’s meal we ordered for our son. The wine selection, for a restaurant of this caliber, also felt like it could use an upgrade.
In summary, Coasterra has fantastic food and an incredible view, but the service could definitely use some improvement to match the rest of the experience. With a bit more attention to detail on that front, it would be a top-notch dining spot.

I recently dined at Coasterra, and it was a memorable experience defined by incredible starters, a world-class view, and top-tier service.
The Food
The appetizers were easily the highlight of the meal.
Jalapeño Cauliflower Tempura: This was absolutely "out of this world." The crunch and the kick of heat were perfectly balanced.
Potato Flautas: These were also very well-executed—crispy, flavorful, and highly recommended.
For the main course, I tried the Al Pastor Cauliflower, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. However, I was incredibly impressed by how the staff handled it. They addressed my feedback promptly and professionally, which really speaks to the quality of the establishment.
Service & Atmosphere
The service here is what truly sets Coasterra apart. From the moment we walked in, the host at the front desk was welcoming and professional. Our server, Natalie, was amazing—attentive, friendly, and she made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening.
And, of course, you can't talk about Coasterra without mentioning the view. It is spectacular and provides the perfect backdrop for a meal in San Diego.
View is amazing, but sometimes there’s a gross swampy smell. Food was mediocre. We had the trout and steak fajita. The trout was good, but needed more taste and less oil. The steak fajita was also a bit too oily and flavorless. Overall, food was overpriced. Service was fine. Everyone was very nice, though. Food came out pretty fast. The coconut flan was almost like a cheesecake, very dense, and it’s coconut because they add some coconut shavings on top. I wouldn’t really call it “coconut” for that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely amazing experience. The skyline view alone makes it worth visiting — it was the perfect backdrop for a beautiful dinner. The ambience was on point: cozy, elegant, and vibrant all at once, creating such a great environment to truly enjoy the evening.
The food was excellent from start to finish. Every dish was flavorful and well-prepared, but the dessert really stood out — the churros were absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. Everything we tried tasted fresh and thoughtfully made.
On top of that, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Great food, stunning views, wonderful ambience, and excellent service — easily a five-star place. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back!
