I ordered 18 items using the Safeway delivery service at Safeway.com with this store as my location. Only 4 of the 14 items were delivered. The delivery driver, whom I met at the door and who smelled like he hadn't showered in a few days, had removed the food, and left one item in each bag (or it might have happened at the store location, I have no way to know). When I opened the door, he was taking pictures of the bar codes.
Within 5 minutes of the delivery, I went online and requested a refund for the items that were not delivered. Safeway then denied my refund request within 15 minutes after having "closely reviewed" the request. I *suspect* this was automatically done by a computer, however they elected to write that it was after "closely reviewing" the request (we as consumers and citizens need to be on top of corporations using algorithms/AI, and pretending it's humans in the loop).
I called the customer support number and the rep, while nice and kind and professional, couldn't do a lot, and there was a lot of static on the line. I'm a repeat customer, this order was in-line with my prior orders ($ amount and item count), and I've never before submitted a refund request, so I'm not sure what red flags there could have been.
The rep I spoke with also didn't have the authority to set up a redelivery. There was no mechanism by which to share the photos I took with them. To summarize: they wouldn't refund, they wouldn't redeliver, and they didn't want to see the pictures.
Maybe I could have spent another hour on the phone escalating with the overseas call center that has a poor connection and static, and maybe that would have worked maybe not, but how I'm actually allocating my time is by going to the local employee-owned WinCo and using my "these items will not be refunded" list as my shopping list.
I don't know how fair it is to leave this review for this store location because I don't know if it was someone in their store who stole the groceries, I don't know if it was the driver, and I don't know how much of the process (worker selection and vetting of the people in the store, the delivery driver, etc) is controlled by the local Safeway, by corporate, or by 3rd parties, etc, but Safeway elected to white-label everything as Safeway, so here we are.
