I tried the Safeway near downtown Sacramento this week and honestly it surprised me in a good way. The produce looked fresh, the deli had a lot of ready-to-go options, and the store itself felt organized instead of chaotic. I grabbed some salad, bread, and a few snacks for the week. Nothing complicated — just a reliable grocery stop that makes everyday shopping easy.

I stopped by the Safeway on Alhambra Blvd after a long day, and the staff genuinely brightened my mood. The produce section was fully stocked with fresh items, and a worker even helped me pick the best avocados for a same-day meal. The store felt clean and organized, and the cashier’s friendly conversation made the checkout unexpectedly pleasant. A small but meaningful lift to my evening.

This was my first trip to Safeway, and I didn’t know what to expect. I came for basics like eggs, bread, and milk but left with a full cart thanks to great deals. The store was clean, the staff welcoming, and the checkout smooth. The quality was top-notch, and the value was far better than I imagined.

If you can go elsewhere do it. The whole place makes you feel like a thief for just wanting to go shopping. Way too many items are locked up - including vitamins. Then theres only one bell for the whole aisle (which is all locked up) and then you may have to wait several minutes for someone to come help you. Also the only way to leave the store is through self checlout, even if come in see there are no baskets and want to grab a cart. Too bad, around the corner you go. The parking lot is a hot mess. Lines are almost non existent causing haphazard parking. The only reason i didnt give this store 1 star is it's generally clean and mostly well stocked. Additionally I've never had a bad experience with any of the employees. Overall if it wasnt for the fact i only live a 2 minute drive from this store and going elsewhere ( like nugget) would add 30-40 minutes roundtrip to go grocery shopping i would never come here.

Ugh do not buy produce here and always check expiration dates! I have thrown away so much produce, especially lettuce that is brown and rotten inside when I get home. Also salad dressing and cucumbers recently. I know i could return it, but it's not a good answer when it's so frequent. Alhambra is my favorite vibe Safeway, due to local folks shopping and working, but I feel like I am wasting my money now. I will try the overwhelming S Street location I guess, but there is always Raleys.
