We’ve been here about five times now, and every visit has been consistently excellent. It’s one of our go-to spots for anniversaries, birthdays, or a more elevated date night and it always delivers on both atmosphere and food.
Our go to items for ordering:
- the 2 mini lobster rolls: they are delicious, though quite small
- For mains, the RH burger and honey-glazed salmon
- Sides: fries, grilled broccolini, or the potatoes purée
- Non-alcoholic prosecco (Mionetto) is also a nice touch and refreshing
- The crème brûlée is great for dessert
Overall, it’s a place that feels dependable in consistently good food and ideal for marking a special moment.

Very disappointed with the experience my girlfriend and her sister had at RH Rooftop Restaurant Palo Alto.
They drove all the way there looking forward to spending time together, but the visit ended up feeling rushed and uncomfortable from the start. When they arrived, the HOST at the front told them they only had one hour at the table, LMAO, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. They still agreed and sat down.
They ordered appetizers first, planning to order drinks and their main dishes afterward, but the server brought the check at the same time the appetizers arrived, and it wasn’t even close to being an hour yet. They didn’t even get the chance to order drinks or entrées. It immediately made them feel like they were being pushed out.
Instead of enjoying the atmosphere and spending time there like they planned, they left early feeling unwelcome. For a place with RH’s reputation, this kind of service is nasty.
They don’t list server names, but the SERVER ID was 8212 in case that helps management look into what happened.

If you get a coffee, you can’t sit inside which is silly. The cortado was served in glass which doesn’t make it very pleasing. Only a regular espresso should be in a glass. A cortado should be in a mug just like drip coffee -even if portioning is less. It wasn’t very hot. The flavor was subpar, slightly sour. Customers have to carry their own coffee outside. There were no pastries available to go with the coffee. It was very warm and while the umbrellas were nice shade, there was no aesthetic fan. From what I seen, there seemed to be too many staff and not enough expertise. I don’t want to see five baristas behind the coffee machine. Minimalism is key. I didn’t even feel comfortable to have a conversation with the barista because of the amount of excess staff. The inside probably had seating for thirty tables and there were close to ten fifteen waiters. That’s quite unnecessary. They don’t have a tray to put used dishes. For an establishment that prizes functionality or should as a design head, I was left with a feeling that the restaurant staff don’t have a basic design understanding. And warmth was lacking. The desire to linger and enjoy an afternoon was markedly not present so for all the European touches, I didn’t actually feel transported to Europe via the experience. Nor did I feel like I learned anything about Palo Alto history. Albeit RH itself was opened in California in 1980… and apparently the RH in Palo Alto opened in 2024 🤣

This RH Rooftop Restaurant has become one of our favorite places to go for brunch in the Bay Area.
It’s located on the outskirts of the Stanford Shopping Center. There are free parkings everywhere. Highly recommend you go early and make reservations in advance. The restaurant as well as the shopping center tend to fill up really fast, especially in the weekends.
Do not be surprised if you walk in a furniture store. Simply take the elevator to the 3rd floor and you’ll reach the rooftop restaurant. The cute glass ceiling and indoor greenery bring the outside in and you’ll feel a sense of openness and freedom. The ambience was a win already for us.
We were quickly checked in and led to our table. The staff who would be taking our order was busy chatting up the next table. When he got to us, he showed a different attitude. Instead of chatty chitty and chirpy attitude, he was matter-of-fact-ly despite us smiling at him.
The staff who brought us food were considerate though. However, the staff who took our order returned at the end to take our plates away. He startled my sister a bit by not asking and just took her plate away.
Other than this tiny uneasy experience, our food and drinks were great. We both order Italian Benedict’s and believe it was the best item on the menu. It was made to perfection and the portion was so perfect.
Otherwise, we totally enjoyed the ambience and the food, minus a tiny interesting experience. We ended leaving a big tip though. Our parents work in the service industry and we understand the importance of leaving nice tips. However, service could have been a bit better :)
