She seems to be consistently there, at least almost every time I visit the Safeway on Hickey Blvd. She delivers above and beyond: Competence: She knows the self-checkout station, especially when hiccups are caused by user error. Several times, I have had to make returns, e.g., I had neglected to check the discount requirements and bought one too FEW in quantity. She expressed empathy and a no-hassle approach to the refund. She definitely knows her stuff. Patience and efficiency: Debra is friendly (chit-chats when there’s time) but prudently keeps an eye on the customers in the queue. I appreciate that. No one likes a long wait at the checkout counter. Customer service: Every time I interact with Debra, she has a knack for saying things that make you smile and/or feel good about the shopping experience. I would always go to the self-checkout station when I see Debra, even if there’s no wait at the cashier stations. Debra is a breath of fresh air in what otherwise would have been (to me) a mundane experience in a supermarket. Though I live closer to the Safeway on Manor Drive, I drive to this branch on Hickey because of the larger selection, the convenience of self-checkout, and most of all, the presence of Debra. If you are trying to save time. Look for her at the self-checkout station.
