Unfortunately the service was a bit disjointed and we had to ask more than once for things like mayonnaise, ketchup and salt and pepper.

I think my expectations were too high but also it was stated by my friends that we didn’t get anything that State & Main is known for (basically we didn’t order their signature dishes). All of us got fish which was fine. I got the sour dumplings & fish tacos which didn’t have as much flavour as I thought it would and the cabbage was too much. I enjoyed the sour dumplings more. My friend had peanut allergies so everything she wanted was outta the question but our server was very accommodating. The highlight for all of us were the fries. They were really, really good! For the price I paid, I expected more or at least to enjoy my food more. I suggest getting their signature dishes if you can. I know I haven’t tried them (yet) but I believe those dishes will be better worth your money

I waited for 10 minutes before being acknowledged and just asked if I'd like a drink. I was polite and nice and ordered my entire meal right away. An old fashioned, a tomato & bacon soup, and a N.Y. striploin steak. I received my drink and that was the last I'd see of my server Jayde. Someone from the back of the house brought my soup. My entire time there no one said a word to me. Not a hello, not a how are you, nothing. No one came back after two bites to ask how my meal was. I truly felt like I didn't belong, like I wasn't welcome there. After 50 minutes my server finally approached me, not to ask how I was, not to let me know why I still haven't received my steak after almost an hour, just to ask if I wanted another drink. I quietly and politely canceled my steak, paid for my soup and drink and left. The soup was amazing, but the service left me wondering what did I possibly do to deserve being treated like such an outcast.

It was a beautiful evening, so we sat on the nice patio, which was moderately busy while the inside was nearly empty. Our waiter was excellent and helpful, bringing a couple of beer samples at my request and giving us plenty of time to decide. The Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon was very good, and the Pineapple Ninja wheat beer was pleasant and refreshing. The food was where things fell short. The Ahi Tuna Sushi Press sounded great, but crispy rice dominated the dish, with only a small amount of tuna and toppings. The flavours were decent, especially with the soy sauce, but the togarashi barely came through. The Spicy Thai Salad had the opposite problem: promising ingredients, but poor execution. It wasn’t properly mixed, with lettuce sitting on top of the noodles and flavours appearing in isolated bites. Better plating and attention to composition could have made a big difference. Good service and atmosphere, but the food needs more attention to detail.
