As someone who worked at fast restaurants, I'm very aware of the dynamics of the environment when it comes to how food is handled. I visited this KFC location. The owner of this franchise location was on site and even took my order. Upon ordering, I requested for my order to be well-done ( both chicken and fries) - which means making the order from scratch not reheating it. I added I'm WILLING TO WAIT HOWEVER LONG THAT TAKES. The owner says oh yes. I pay for my order and he hands me the receipt with no indication of the meal being well- done( usually receipts indicates what special orders entail). When I noticed there wasn't any well-done indication, I informed the owner again, he approaches a lady at the back and said something to her. Less than 1minute another employee hands me my order. I told her my order is well-done, as it hadn't even been 3mins since I ordered. I reiterated that, I already told the owner I'm willing to wait. This employee proceeds to tell me the chicken is fresh, I said I understand but it's not well-done.. only the fries was at this time. She proceeds to open one of my orders, using the same gloves she uses to take orders and touches the food to prove to me that the meal is fresh. ( This is the reason why I always prefer my meals to be dropped fresh, because a lot of restaurants do not follow public health hygiene protocols). I told her again, that chicken is not well-done, so I asked her to go back and ask how long the chicken has been out. She went, came back and told me 10mins, then I said to her, I told you it's not well-done. She then proceeds to tell me the well-done will take 10-15mins and I replied, I know that's why I already told the owner upon ordering that I was willing to wait. She proceeds to take the order to back. Remember the meal she touched with her dirty gloves, her colleague proceeds to put the meal back to be served to other customers. This is why I always get my food well-done; meticulously watching how the staff prepares my food; because why would you put food that you have touched with unclean gloves back to served. My well-done order is now complete, they tried to give me the cold gravy from the first order, I told the owner the gravy had been sitting out, no attempt was made to keep it warm. When gravy cools down the consistency changes, which makes it hard (literally) to consume. The owner got upset, and says to me you wanted this and that we have done it, just take your food and leave. I told the owner, "I made my request known before paying for my order and if you knew you couldn't handle my demands I should have been informed right away". I then asked for a refund, then the owner ask the employee to give me a warm gravy. How can this kind of service happen with the owner of the franchise onsite and working. I wonder what the place is like when the owner is not there. Moral of the story: you are paying for your meal, so make sure it's handled safely for your consumption. However Kipling KFC, review your hygiene policies with your staff and if you can't handle a customer's demands, you need to inform them ahead of time, rather than getting upset at them.
