I just wanted to post a review of East Side Mario’s in the Burlington Centre. My dad and I come here at least once a week - my dad is the biggest fan of their potato bacon soup so East Side’s is usually his number one choice when we’re heading out for lunch. Not only is the food great at this location, the service is really great too. We are always greeted with smiles and hellos, and the servers are fast and go out of their way to make sure we’re comfortable and that everything tastes good. (And it does!) We just want to thank the staff (and the manager, Rahul) at East Side’s for creating a space where we feel at home, and are treated to great food! Thanks! Michelle

So we decided to try east side Mario’s after 20 years of staying away. The decor is not nearly as quirky as it was back then, service was good enough, everyone was pleasant. Food was… a mixed bag. The salad is as I remember it, as is the unlimited bread. Proteins like the chicken cutlet or my wife’s seafood were reasonably well executed, nothing special but fine. The garlic fest theme was clever. The pasta though, was awful. I know you aren’t going to get a proper al dente in a restaurant like this, but soggy overcooked pasta for pasta dishes is really unacceptable. Would I eat here again? Maybe in another 20 years if it’s still around.

sadly the majority of these reviews are fake because of management pushing servers for 5 star reviews. It’s happening at other Recipe unlimited restaurants and it’s unfortunate and has ruined some of our dining experiences. however i wanted to point something out. today our server was melissa. she was very kind and prompt. replaced my young sons drink when it spilled, was quick to clear dirty dishes or get boxes or another order of bread. my kids insisted they needed blue plates for their bread and she brought them. she made sure our meal was good. she brought over my sons dessert with a candle in it because he mentioned it was his birthday. she was kind, she asked if we would like to make a review and we said sure and she gave us a card to scan a barcode. she didn’t bribe us, push us, hover over us while we made our review, insist we mention her, or question if we made it or not. so my 10 year old son gave her a 5 star review that she deserved. you shouldn’t have to push or bribe. just give good service. wanted to thank melissa for having integrity and giving us a great birthday lunch for my son. it’s truly easier to just give good food and service and the reviews will then reflect that naturally.

Unfortunately I have to edit my review. I’m not sure if this location is under new management so they’re trying to improve the ratings, but I was very strongly pressured into leaving a 5 star review on the spot while my partner was paying. I might’ve left a slightly more generous but still honest review if I was just given a card requesting feedback on my own time instead of the server (Alaa) almost trying to push the buttons on my phone for me. We (party of 2) arrived at 8:30pm on a Friday when they closed at 10. When we asked to sit on the patio they said they were closing it (last 2 tables were finishing up). Visibly disappointed by this (in the peak of summer!) they were kind enough to let us sit out there. We immediately felt rushed though. Alaa our server assumed we wanted entrees and asked for our salad order at the same time as drinks. We had to ask for the bread after our entrees arrived. Didn’t offer Parmesan when entrees were served, had to ask later. Because we felt we were asking for so many things (that should’ve been provided by default), we weren’t comfortable asking for more salad or even waters at that point. Food was delicious overall but it was certainly a weird experience for us…

Terrible experience, and unfortunately our last visit. We came to celebrate my daughter's birthday with her friends. It took 10 minutes to get my beer and 20 minutes for the kids' lemonade and chocolate milks. Despite ordering unlimited soup and salad, our entrées arrived first resulting in no soup or salad for most despite paying for it. The food came out at different times, and the side salad ordered as a main was forgotten. When the pasta finally arrived, it wasn't even hot and quality was poor. After speaking with the manager about these issues, I reminded them it was my daughter's birthday. They brought out a dry slice of jelly roll without even a candle, which was disappointing. Another table nearby also waited about 15 minutes for drinks and had to get their own utensils from the inside after being served salad. This wasn't just one mistake—it was a series of service and quality issues that made for a very poor dining experience. Responsibility doesn't fall solely on the staff or manager; ownership also has a role in ensuring the restaurant is properly run. We left very disappointed.
