Nothing better than 100% homemade and whole-food vegan food! This restaurant makes the most delicious vegan, funky diner food. I specifically love their two types of Gyros, The Reuben, and the Fish Tacos. I drive 30 mins from La Jolla to get food from here, so I clearly love it! The portions are huge, so you can have one or two leftovers for the work week! Highly recommend and will take my family here when they visit SD!

Such an amazing local gem!!! Everything made in house, cool art, great vibes, wonderful service, fun menu and GIANT PORTIONS! Chicken parm was bomb. Staff is unbelievably kind. Let’s all come together and support these locally owned independent gems that make SD so special!

Man I genuinely love this place and have ordered from here so many times, but I ordered from here last night and the usual thing I get adobada tacos, the "meat" was super burnt. Off-putting but not a big deal, things happen. Several hours later I got violently ill from the food. It was the only meal I had that entire day so I know it was from this.

Today, I visited Iris for the third time, and I feel it’s important to share my experience in a clear, honest, and professional manner. On my first visit, the food was decent and the staff were exceptionally kind and polite, but I left feeling very bloated; I chose to give it another chance, especially after receiving a coupon. During my second visit, the same issue occurred but more severely, and I became extremely ill afterward, though I initially assumed it might have been due to overeating. Before returning a third time, I decided that if the same reaction happened again, I would not come back; unfortunately, during today’s visit, both my husband and I once again felt very sick, with significant stomach discomfort. While the food appears well-prepared and the portions are generous, there seems to be something that does not agree with us. We considered whether our recent transition to a vegan diet might be a factor, but we have dined at several other vegan restaurants without any issues, which makes this experience stand out. I want to emphasize that the staff have consistently been warm and courteous, which I truly appreciate; however, given the repeated negative physical reactions, I feel it is important to note that individuals with sensitive stomachs may want to exercise caution. Additionally, I found the drink prices to be higher than expected. This feedback is shared respectfully, but firmly, in the hope that it is helpful to both the business and future guests.

We stopped here for lunch on a sunny Saturday. The restaurant sits in a ramshackle building near the railroad tracks in south Oceanside. It was not very busy. You order at the counter, pay up front, then take a seat while they bring the food. The service was prompt and perfectly adequate. The atmosphere is “eclectic.” We sat outside at a table whose cloth was so filthy and sticky that it immediately raised questions about the rest of the place. Rather than creating distinctive vegan dishes that stand on their own, this restaurant tries to replicate American classics without using the ingredients that make them classics. That effort is largely doomed to failure. Fysh Tacos ($20, add avocado $2): three soggy tortillas with some sort of fried filling topped with shredded cabbage and sauce. About a 2 out of 5 in taste, texture, and overall quality. The Chop Chop ($16): a salad mostly composed of kale, including plenty of inedible stems, with a bit of other lettuce, some garbanzo beans, and a vinegar dressing. Again, about a 2 out of 5 in ingredient quality. Galactic Monster Fries ($11): a medium portion of inexcusably soggy, tasteless fries topped with a gooey but passable sauce. In our opinion, any place that cannot produce decent, crisp fries should have its deep fryer repossessed. Awful. Chilidog ($17): some sort of veggie-based “log” topped with bad chili and served soggy. The secret to chili is the seasoning. Done right, veggie chili can taste every bit as good as excellent beef chili. If you can’t even get that right, you wouldn’t make the qualifying round of a chili cook-off. This chili missed the mark by a mile. The macaroni salad side dish was bland and half as good as what you can make at home. Reuben Sando ($19): served with the same awful fries. The sandwich came on very thick-sliced, bland wheat bread and wasn’t even cut in half, making it practically impossible to eat as a sandwich. I had to resort to a knife and fork. The filling contained very little sauerkraut and instead featured strange layers of some unidentifiable material with gloppy “cheese.” I ate less than half before giving up. Disgusting. Drinks: Lemonade and iced tea ($6.25 each, no refills) came in medium-sized canning jars. Both were cold but contained no ice, and none was offered. The tap water arrived in the same jar, room temperature, also without ice. It tasted like it came from a 90-year-old cistern. I didn’t drink it. A note on the serving ware: everything arrived in metal trays lined with waxed paper. The food juices quickly turned the paper into pulp. Using a knife and fork meant small pieces of soggy paper sticking to the bottom of the food. Unappealing, awkward, and inconvenient. The bill for three people was $97.50, plus $8.04 sales tax and a 4% “Non-Cash Adjustment” ($3.90)—apparently a penalty for using a credit card, though there was no sign or disclosure about this beforehand. Because you pay before eating, I had already added a $10 tip, even though the only service provided was taking the order, delivering the food, and clearing the plates. Total: $119.44. Offensively overpriced! We have eaten at vegan restaurants that serve exceptional food. Think Au Lac (LA downtown, not the mediocre Fountain Valley one). So yes—excellent vegan cuisine is possible. Unfortunately, this place relies heavily on highly processed plant-based substitutes whose health benefits are questionable for the same reason highly processed meat products are a pox on the nation’s health. While we appreciate the idea of offering vegan food for an underserved community, this was not good vegan food and we do not recommend it. The five-star reviews are simply inexplicable. Response to Owner: Thanks for the reply. This wasn’t about expectations—it was execution. Scratch-made or not, soggy, gloppy, awful food is still awful, badly-conceived food. Effort doesn’t equal outcome. I’ll leave the personal remarks out of it. The review reflects what we were served.
