  Had a disturbing experience at Khana Peena today. TL,DR: NOT veg-friendly. I stopped by for what I hoped would be a nice lunch treat — I had fond memories of this place, but haven't been in over a decade. Instead these folks ruined my day by serving me, a vegetarian who hasn't had to digest animal flesh in 25 years, a samosa with chicken inside it. (Which was not even on the menu... who puts chicken in their samosa??) The samosas were doused in sauce and garbanzos, to which I attributed the "meaty" texture. So I unknowingly ate a whole samosa before discovering a chicken chunk that confirmed that texture did not come from the channa. Disgusted and literally sick to my stomach. Had never felt violated by a restaurant before. I had also ordered a small daal which for some reason was completely unseasoned; it was inedible. They charged me for the samosa anyway (after giving me veg samosa to go). I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but I will never return and I recommend all vegetarians and vegans and folks with food allergies steer clear. I can't remember the last time I had such a horrible experience when eating out.

  Spiced just right. Mango chicken delicious. Veg masala a bounty of veggies. Drinks were full of goodness too!

  Food was delish! We enjoyed everything that we have ordered. It’s a gem in Rockridge area. If you haven’t tried Indian food, come and visit this place. Eduardo was very nice and attentive. Will definitely come back!

  We ordered on line for pick up from Khana Peena. I ended up calling twice for assistance- once for details on a dish, and once to add an additional dish I had forgotten. Parking can be problematic but we got lucky with a spot across the street. We ordered quite a few dishes and didn't have any that disappointed. We had the mixed grill, chicken biriyani, lamb biriyani, chicken tikka masala, karahi lamb, plain naan, raita, a vegetable curry, papadum, chicken pakora and veggie pakora. The pakoras were pleasant but the chicken tikka masala and lamb dishes were standouts. The lamb was both flavorful and tender. The sauces were cleaned up with naan to get the last bit. We will happily order again. It's not cheap but it's very, very good.
