Extremely disappointed. They charge an extra fee just to cut a birthday cake, which would be fine if the service actually existed. The staff was incredibly inefficient—we sat down at 7:40 PM and were still stuck there at 9:30 PM because everything took forever.
The waiters were too busy chatting with each other to take our order, and once we finished, the dirty plates just sat there. We had to constantly play 'hide and seek' to even find a server. To top it off, after asking them to bring out the cake, we waited another 10+ minutes. If you’re going to charge 'service fees,' maybe try actually providing some service first. Our night was totally dragged out by their lack of effort.
By far the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced—and on a day that actually mattered.
My wife and I went to RH to celebrate just getting married, returning to the same place I took her on our first date. I even noted in the reservation that this was a special occasion. Clearly, that meant nothing.
After being seated, we were completely ignored. No greeting, no water, no acknowledgment—nothing—for over 30 minutes. The restaurant wasn’t even busy. I finally had to get up and ask the front desk if anyone was planning to serve us.
When someone eventually came to the table, there was no apology, no ownership—just a blank “has anyone been helping you?” She then asked if we were celebrating anything, and after we said we had just gotten married, her response was a flat, disinterested “congrats, what would you like to drink?” It felt forced, robotic, and honestly disrespectful given the situation.
At that point, the damage was done. The lack of awareness, urgency, and basic hospitality completely ruined the experience. We chose to leave rather than spend another minute there.
On our way out, we informed the front desk we were leaving, hoping someone might show even a little concern. Instead, we got a casual “okay, we’ll cancel the reservation.” No apology. No attempt to fix anything. Nothing.
For a place that prides itself on ambiance and reputation, the service is shockingly bad. Don’t be fooled by the aesthetic—this place runs on appearances, not actual hospitality.
Thankfully, we went elsewhere and were treated the way guests should be. That contrast made it even clearer: RH isn’t just overrated—it’s careless.

We went to the RH Rooftop Restaurant expecting a high-end dining experience, but it ended up being more about the atmosphere than the food.
The space itself is beautiful—very photogenic and clearly designed for Instagram. Walking up through the showroom to the rooftop adds to the “experience,” and you can tell it carries that Restoration Hardware prestige.
That said, the food didn’t live up to the price point. It wasn’t bad—it was decent—but nothing memorable. I ordered the petite filet and my wife had the steak frites, and honestly, the steaks were nearly identical despite the price difference. Same sauce, similar quality—hers was just sliced. For what you pay, you expect more distinction.
Everything is also very à la carte and full of upcharges. Truffle fries? Upcharge. Even the cocktail details—like a branded ice cube in their Old Fashioned—came with an extra charge that wasn’t disclosed upfront. It starts to feel excessive pretty quickly.
We also noticed there’s no kids’ menu, which is fine for an upscale spot, but worth noting if you’re dining as a family. The burger and sides were okay, but again, nothing that stood out.
All in, our bill was around $400, and it just didn’t match the overall value. I’ve had significantly better meals at nicer restaurants for less.
If you go, go for the ambiance, drinks, and photos—it’s great for that. But if you’re going strictly for food quality, there are definitely better options out there.
Walking into RH at Fashion Island is unlike any retail experience in Orange County. The space is breathtaking — soaring ceilings, a rooftop terrace overlooking the Newport harbor, and room vignettes staged with the kind of restraint and precision you'd expect from a luxury hotel rather than a showroom. Every detail, from the warm ambient lighting to the scent in the air, has been considered.
The staff strikes exactly the right balance present and knowledgeable without hovering. We spent nearly an hour simply wandering, and not once did anyone apply pressure. When we did have questions about lead times on a custom sofa configuration, the associate was patient, thorough, and genuinely helpful.
The rooftop café alone is worth the visit beautiful space, quality drinks, and one of the better views you'll find while shopping in Newport. Whether you're furnishing a home or simply want to be inspired, this location is in a class of its own on the West Coast.
