  This is my go-to for high-end client dinners up the coast. Seafood, steak, views of the Pacific — Mastro’s delivers on all of it. Brought a luxury buyer here after a long day of showings. The setting alone makes the conversation easy.

  Upsell is the name of the game here. Our overly eager waiter (Aria I think was his name?) talked a mile a minute and tried to push the most expensive items on the menu at us. Difficult to hear due to the blaring music and acoustics in the room. We had a 9 PM reservation and got there on time but weren’t seated for another 15 minutes, which was fine. The food, which should’ve been great at this price point simply wasn’t. Three dishes were sent back. If you’re expecting the same quality food from the other Mastro’s from years ago, do not expect that here. The first question our server asked us was “what special occasion were we celebrating”? Which kind of makes sense given that most of the women were dressed as if they were going on a prom date with their underdressed companions. But patrons aside, between the mediocre food and blaring acoustics this was a holy unpleasant experience at a high price. Do not waste your time or money going here if you care about good food or pleasant atmosphere. The servers seem like robots with their speeches and rehearsed responses. The food that we didn’t care for was promptly removed from the bill, which was nice, but it couldn’t overcome the fact that we ended up feeling like we were targets to get as much money out of as possible. This location used to be the Chart House Malibu, which at least had a more pleasant dining experience.

  It was nice to return to the Ocean Club since it closure due to the fires. The weather was perfect on Easter Sunday and the views are wonderful! My only reason for giving four stars versus five is that staff was not as kind as once before. I have dined at this location many times over the years and customer service was top tier. I cannot say the same at this time. Cuisine has diminished a bit in quality as well.
