I showed walking up 5 mins before closing in desperate need of some Tampax and the store manager refused to let me get a box of tampax. I politely asked again in desperation said I’m on foot I have no vehicle and the store is miles from here and he still said No. That was inhumane and a quick ring up would have not made much difference on the store trying to close early. Karma that’s all I can say.

I’ve been saying the last several times I’ve been here that I would never come back again, but this last trip solidified it. Done with this place. Many years ago (10+) this place was known as the “crackhead Vons”. Then they completely remodeled it, and it was one of the nicest grocery stores in town. That continued to be true until a couple years ago. It was great throughout the pandemic (shout out to Denise, who was an efficient, kind, and community-minded store manager during that time). But in recent years everything about the place has gone downhill. Prices go up up up, even more than the other grocery stores. Signage is often wrong. Produce section is lacking. Store is often dirty and disorganized. Most of the non-perishables are now completely locked up. If you need something from there, you have to wait interminably for someone to unlock it for you, and then you can’t even put it in your cart. Absurd. One star for the deli/hot case though. It’s still pretty good. I’ve tried to combat some of these irritations by ordering for delivery or pick up, but then they just substitute random things or they’re out of everything. Last time they were out of 6 of 9 things I wanted. These were not specialty items; I’m talking green onions, cornmeal, and egg noodles. And last time I did pick up I called when I got to the pick up area, and no one answered, for 20 minutes. Irritated (and sick), I went downstairs ready to be mad, but instead just felt terrible for the one employee I could find, who was running the sole open register, with at least 10 people waiting. When I walked up to explain what I needed she just looked panicked and said “I’m sorry I think the pick up person left”. She looked like she wanted to cry. So here we come to the coup de grace: the lines. THE LINES. They are long and the store does nothing about them. All self-checkouts are closed now (which they blame on some regulation, but the other stores in the city seem to do fine). There are six checkout lanes, but I’ve never seen more than four open (this during the after work rush), but usually it’s two or three. On my last trip every line was backed up into the aisles, and the line for register 1 snaked back into floral/produce. If I wasn’t holding medicine my partner was counting on, I would have dropped the rest of my stuff and just left (which I have done before). Everyone around me looked pissed as hell, but hey that’s just how it is here, all the time. There’s clearly something wrong with the way this place is run, and I’m out of patience for it to be sorted out. El Super and Ralph’s are better in every way.

Shout out to the cashiers who have to deal with idiots! An impatient fool found it necessary to start yelling at the cashier who was helping the customer in front of him. he just couldn't get through his day without yelling at the top of his lungs berating the cashier and the customer for being too slow and not in his hurry. The cashiers were polite and professional and doing their jobs in a timely manner. Happy safe Halloween to all the Vons employees who have to deal with people like this on a day-to-day basis.

I sent my husband to get some lunch in the deli while he picked up prescriptions in pharmacy. Hot wings seemed undercooked with a thick layer of fat under skin. And they were all drums.....not one flat portion. Do you have to ask for those? Something labeled rib tips were actually small ribs loaded with gristle, fat and highly undercooked. And it had the taste of being old....hope we don't get sick. The deli help were very unprofessional, dancing around. It seemed like I interrupted something.....sorry you have to work!
