  They don't take cash anymore - at least not for self checkout. The machines are designed to take cash. They USED TO take cash. I would go somewhere else, except in this stupid place nothing that is open isn't a total rip off. So I was running late and had to get some food for lunch, and Safeway was open. Got sandwich, went to self checkout, as I've done before, and as I was about to put my cash into the cash receptacle, I hear, "No cash transactions!". I say, "What?" I mean, I've done this before, with cash. "No cash transactions. You can't pay with cash anymore." And some nonsense about the penny. You know what Safeway? You can adjust your prices so that everything ends in '0' or '5'. That's a solution. Not accepting actual money for transactions is not a solution. That's 'I'm not shopping at Safeway anymore', and almost sounds like grounds for a lawsuit. Safeway. What is wrong with you? I have cash. Cash is money. I'm here, with money, and you're telling me I can't shop here with money. You can't shop here with money. You need some kind of card. What does that say about Safeway? We only serve people with bank accounts and credit cards? You can't buy food here even if you have money, if it's cash? I'm hearing, the disenfranchised are not welcome here.

  1 star is too much for this Safeway in Lafayette. I came in just to pick up my order, and immediately the employee started acting rude, aggressive, and completely disrespectful. No help, no professionalism just attitude and arguing for no reason. She kept saying she has the manager’s support like that excuses her behavior. That’s honestly even worse, because if that’s true, then management is allowing this kind of treatment toward customers. It was embarrassing. People around were literally staring because of how badly she handled the situation. I’ve never been treated like this just for picking up an order. If this is how Safeway treats customers, then something is seriously wrong at this location. Train your staff or fix your management—because this is unacceptable.

  Idk what it is but everytime I’m in here the self Checkout employees accuse me of stealing 🤷‍♂️ have been a paying customer for over a year, and just got accused of scanning 1 corn instead of 3… it’s a joke. Multiple different employees. I’ve never shoplifted in my life, but when I’m at this Safeway, they make me feel like I’m robbing the whole store.

  Started going here bc of the pharmacy and had a great experience so now I go way more often for various groceries. Folks are friendly and helpful. Store has fantastic selection. Clean and organized. Parking is always findable. Flower selection is lovely. Deli has some delicious offerings. I also get vaccines here. A really nice Safeway! Editing to add that this place plays bangers. If you’re any age but particularly Gen X or millennial and you want to subtly dance in the aisle while getting your yogurt and seltzer, they’ve got your back.

  Love the remodel … love all the organic produce … great fish pricing … the self check out works very well … the front store manager Denise is helpful.
