First off the reviews are misleading for this restaraunt as it used to be BO-beau kitchen and when they changed it to this restaurant they kept all of the old reviews which is very deceiving.
The AI highlights you see above for Brussels sprouts , steak frites, salmon , happy hour etc are all left over from Bo-beau , Casa Gabriella serves none of those items.
The food is good I will admit that , my review isn't about the food.
The Wife and I have visited quite a few times , usually coming after work to hit up happy hour and to also eat dinner. After the last two times we tried to eat here we decided it would be our last as they are now reserving bar tables for guests that never show up. Why you allow bar tables to be reserved is beyond me , I have never seen this. The manager even said oh we dont reserve bar tables , went over and talked to the hostess and came back and said sorry the tables reserved. The last two times we waited 30 and 45 minutes for a table to become available but ended up leaving.
Another thing that is just odd for a Mexican restaraunt is they don't serve chips during brunch , yes you can order salsa and guacamole but you ain't getting chips which is one of the strangest things I have ever seen at a Mexican restaurant.
There are other things I could get into like the employees they are hiring (or not hiring) but I will leave it at this.
If you want a good Happy Hour go to La Mesa Brigantine and avoid this place like the plague.

My wife and I tried some of their happy hours on a Sunday. Sat at the bar and service was great. There was an issue with one of the items but they took care of it promptly. We had the tacos, campechana cocktail, esquite and Caesar salad. For drinks we had the cantarito, michelada and flor de amor. We like the aesthetic of the place and for a moment we were wondering if the food would be authentic Mexican food. While what we tried was limited, everything was tasty. The description of the items on the menu was pretty accurate. Overall, I recommend this place.

My wife and I have been frequently going here for brunch. Fantastic service, amazing food, great atmosphere. Our goal is to try everything on the brunch menu.
I highly recommend:
• Café de olla
• Chef Gaby's Dulces (it's different every week)
But honestly, we haven't tried anything that wasn't incredibly delicious, so you really can't go wrong.

Terrible service, we ordered food and one round of drinks. When we ordered a second round of drinks we were told no more drinks would arrive until we ordered more food, but the tables around us kept getting drinks. At some point the manager showed up to our table instead of the waitress with an attitude. We ordered more food and drinks, we got our food but no drinks arrived to our table. But yet again, tables around us kept getting drinks. Never coming back.

Several days ago we decided to dine at Casa Gabriela in La Mesa, California, and the experience was wonderful from the moment we arrived. We were seated right away, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated, spacious, and inviting, with the option to enjoy outdoor dining as well. The ambiance felt warm and comfortable.
Menus, water, and warm chips with salsa were brought to the table immediately. The salsa had great flavor with a pleasant touch of heat. Our server was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us time to look everything over and checked on us throughout the meal, which made the service feel attentive and welcoming.
We started with the Queso Fundido, served in a traditional cast iron skillet. The blend of Oaxaca and Asadero cheeses, along with the poblano and pinto beans, created a rich and balanced flavor. Both corn and flour tortillas were provided. For my main dish, I ordered the Chicken Tinga Taco Plate. The chicken had a nice smokiness and a gentle amount of heat, and the tacos were a generous size. The rice and beans were seasoned well and paired nicely with the dish. My partner ordered the Chile Relleno made with Mexican crema, Oaxaca cheese, and Cotija cheese. I tried a bite, and it was well battered, well seasoned, and complemented by their Epazote Ranchero Salsa. Both plates came with rice and beans. We each ordered horchata, which had a pleasant and balanced flavor.
Overall, we had a great experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and we look forward to returning to try more dishes.

* As a side note, parking in downtown La Mesa can be challenging. The available parking in the area is paid rather than complimentary, but this is not the responsibility of Casa Gabriela or any of the surrounding businesses. It is simply part of the downtown district.
